The conference, organised by Devon Wildlife Trust, was staged at the city’s St Peter’s Church of England School and took place on Friday 9th November. The thrill of Speed - but only at 100 miles per hour

It’s only been nine months since Holiday On Ice was last at Westpoint with Robin Cousins‘ excellent Tropicana , but given the reception the latest spectacular, Speed , received last night, it has lost none of its appeal for Exeter audiences.

Much has been made in pre-publicity about the use of motorbikes in the show, so we went expecting a full-on evening of leather and two-stroke oil on ice - what we got was something completely different.

Speed is merely a premise around which the show is choreographed: each half has five distinctly separate pieces - Speed of Love,...

"How I long to sail,” said the tiny snail... Northcott Theatre

This year’s Christmas show at Exeter Northcott looks set to be a winner with children and grown-ups alike.

Tall Stories, creators of The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom , bring their latest production, The Snail and the Whale , to the theatre for a festive run on 12-30 December.

This charming play of bravery tells the story of a tiny snail who longs to see the world and hitches a lift on the tail of a humpback whale. What an adventure the pair embark upon, as they journey together across the seas.

But then disaster strikes – the whale gets...

LONDON (AP) — A leading British medical journal is asking the drug maker Roche to release all its data on Tamiflu, claiming there is no evidence the drug can actually stop the flu.

The drug has been stockpiled by dozens of governments worldwide in case of a global flu outbreak and was widely used during the 2009 swine flu pandemic.

On Monday, one of the researchers linked to the BMJ journal called for European governments to sue Roche.

"I suggest we boycott Roche's products until they publish missing Tamiflu data," wrote Peter Gotzsche, leader of the Nordic Cochrane...

Devon's record-breaking children’s reading challenge

A record number of children in Devon returned to school this year as better readers thanks to their local library. Over 8,000 children participated in the Summer Reading Challenge, which is a massive 30% more than took part last year and a new record for the County.

Councillor Andrea Davis, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Health and Wellbeing, said: “Reading is a vital part of a child’s development and improving literacy levels amongst our children is a top priority so I'm delighted that schemes like this are encouraging more children to read.

“The...

Spooky half term deal at Exeter's Tenpin centre

Finding stuff for the kids to do over Halloween can be pretty scary, when all they want to do is dress up like monsters and play practical jokes. It's worth remembering that the more treats you give them, the fewer tricks you can expect in return! So it's the perfect time to treat them to a game of bowling at Tenpin.

The centre is offering a deal of one game of bowling and a burger meal for just £6.99 per junior and £9.99 for adults.
