Civic Leaders send messages of support for Wembley-bound Grecians

Civic leaders have sent messages of support to Exeter City Football Club as the Grecians attempt to win promotion to League Division One at Wembley tonight (Monday 29 June).

The Lord Mayor of Exeter and the Leader of the City Council will once again be taking their place in the ground – as life-size cut-outs - as Exeter take on Northampton Town in the League Two Play-off Final.

Exeter City legends from the past century and beyond such as Dick Pym, Alan Banks and Adam Stansfield will have a seat ‘together’ at a game for the very first time at the club’s Wembley playoff match.

Measures introduced by the club to help fans attend the match in ‘virtual form’ means 12 much-loved players will join their fellow Grecians in the capital.

A left-footed strike from Ryan Bowman in extra time sent Exeter City to Wembley after a manic second-leg at St James Park.

Aaron Martin and Jayden Richardson had taken City 2-1 up on aggregate, before a goal from Courtney Senior sent the match to extra time, before Ryan’s strike ultimately won the game for the Grecians.

Exeter City Football Club is attempting to trace around 100 people who have bought shares in the club over the last century.

The club, which is legally obliged to hold an up-to-date share register at St James Park, is making a concerted effort to track down a number of missing shareholders or the next of kin of those who have passed away.
