Match report: Exeter City 0 Colchester United 0

A goalless draw at St James Park proved an engrossing fixture as Exeter City were held 0-0 by Colchester United at St James Park on Saturday.

City boss Matt Taylor made two changes to the side that won in Grimsby last weekend, with Nicky Ajose and Jayden Richardson coming in for Lee Martin and Brennan Dickenson. Alex Fisher returned from injury to take his place on the Grecians’ bench.

The Grecians started very brightly and had a superb chance to open the scoring after just two minutes as Ryan Bowman countered single-handedly with a wonderful solo effort, but delayed his...

Flush off a 1-0 victory over Grimsby Town, Exeter City closed the point gap on Swindon Town in the Sky Bet League table. As it stands, the Grecians are on a level with the Robins (each with 53 points), but behind on goal differential. Crucially, the Grecians have a game in hand, which could very well come in handy down the stretch as the clubs continue jostling for automatic promotion.

In thwarting Grimsby last weekend, the Grecians recorded their tenth 1-0 win on the season and, in turn, their 14th clean sheet in the league, which, incidentally, marks the cleanest sheets of any of...

Ryan Bowman’s close range strike coupled with Randall Williams’ effort meant the Grecians remain within touching difference of leaders Swindon Town at the top of the Sky Bet League Two table.

City boss Matt Taylor made just one change to the side that beat Forest Green in their last league outing, with Jake Taylor coming in to captain the side and replacing the suspended Nigel Atangana, who saw red in that win at the New Lawn on New Year’s Day.

Exeter City ended 2019 two points off the top of Sky Bet League Two after they fought back from a goal down to earn a well-deserved point at Colchester United.

It represented and entertaining end to what was a match that initially City had taken the lead in before falling behind to goals from Harry Pell and Theo Robinson.

As the 2019/20 season moves into the second half, Exeter City are once again looking like they can challenge for promotion from League Two back up to League One.
