Townson joins Chiefs coaching staff

Glen Townson has joined Exeter Chiefs as the men’s assistant forwards coach.

Formerly the academy transition coach with Bristol Bears, the former lock forward makes the move to Chiefs having been in his transition role with Bears since September 2022.

Townson said: “It has been a real ambition of mine to be a Gallagher PREM coach, and to get the chance to do it at the Chiefs, one of the most successful clubs in the last decade, a club with rich history, was an opportunity I had to take.

“I’m hoping to add experience to a strong coaching group and build on the...

Chiefs book Premiership final place

London’s Calling again for Rob Baxter and his Exeter Chiefs side as they powered their way into a fourth successive Gallagher Premiership Rugby Final with victory over Northampton Saints at Sandy Park.

As it was this time last year - and also in 2016 - reigning European champions Saracens will once again provide the sizeable hurdle that the Devonians will have to overcome in the end of season showpiece at Twickenham.

The Chiefs, though, will travel in confident mood, particularly given the way they dispatched the Saints in the second half of this encounter.

Having...

Saracens 38 Chiefs 7

On so-called ‘Star Wars Day’, Exeter Chiefs felt the full force of the Gallagher Premiership’s Dark Lords as Saracens powered their way to all five points in this top of the table battle at Allianz Park.

Mark McCall’s side not only cut Exeter’s lead at the summit to just four points with one round of the regular season remaining, but they revved up for next week’s Champions Cup Final with a confidence-boosting display that yielded five tries.

Alex Lewington’s converted try was all that separated the two rivals at the break, after which the home side ran riot with a second...

Dennis signs new deal at Exeter Chiefs

Dave Dennis hopes to be part of a bright future at Sandy Park, this after he today put pen to paper on a new two-year deal with Gallagher Premiership leaders Exeter Chiefs.

Brought to Devon back in the summer of 2016 from his native Australia, the former Waratahs forward has already played a significant role in helping bring success and silverware to the Chiefs.

He capped his first season in England by helping his new club to become Premiership champions for the first time in the club's history, defeating Wasps after extra-time at Twickenham. Then, last season, he was on...

Chiefs side to face Worcester Warriors

Rob Baxter will take nothing for granted when his Exeter Chiefs side travel to Worcester Warriors in tomorrow's Gallagher Premiership clash at Sixways (3pm).

Although the two rivals are at opposite ends of the table, the Devonians know from past experience that any drop in standard can potentially lead to disaster.

Last season, the Warriors were the only side to down the Chiefs on home soil in the Premiership, and it's for that very reason that Baxter has issued a note of caution to his players.

Add into the mix also that the Midlanders lost last weekend at bottom...

Van Der Sluys leaves the Chiefs

Wilhelm Van Der Sluys has bid an emotional farewell to Exeter Chiefs, bringing to an end his two-season association with the Gallagher Premiership club.

The South African-born forward said his goodbyes to everyone at Sandy Park on Tuesday, before jetting back to his homeland to take up a contract offer with Super Rugby outfit, the Lions.

The 27-year-old was brought to Devon by Chiefs Director of Rugby Rob Baxter in July 2017 from the Kings initially on a one-year deal, but he did enough during that first season to convince Baxter to prolong his stay.

Make no mistake, this was a brutal battle.

Fighting it out in the quest for valuable league points, by the time these two Premiership heavyweights wake-up tomorrow, the blood may have been vanished, but the scars of battle will still be clearly evident.

In the end, it was Exeter Chiefs who delivered the telling blows, maintaining their three-point lead at the top of the Gallagher Premiership by flooring rivals Sale Sharks for a second time this season.

First half tries from Ollie Devoto and Don Armand paved the way for their latest triumph, after which replacement...

Chiefs side to face Sale Sharks

Rob Hunter says Exeter Chiefs will need to be at their best as they look to preserve their lead at the top of the Gallagher Premiership.

Tomorrow, the Devonians tackle Sale Sharks at the AJ Bell Stadium (3pm) in a fixture forwards coach Hunter insists is ‘one of the hardest’ in the division.

With just eight rounds of the regular season remaining, the jostling for positions at either end of the Premiership table is intensifying by the week.

It is therefore little wonder that coaches across the division are demanding their teams show the necessary fight as every...

Rob Baxter hopes a return to home comforts tomorrow will help provide him and his Exeter Chiefs with the perfect foundation from which to attack visiting Newcastle Falcons in the Gallagher Premiership (2:30pm).

Defeat away to Gloucester a week ago saw the Devonians surrender top spot in the division, albeit on points difference to defending champions Saracens, but Baxter believes being back on familiar surroundings can ensure normal service is resumed at the first attempt.

It's been six weeks since the Chiefs last ran out at home - that was against Castres in the Heineken...

Exeter Chiefs Director of Rugby Rob Baxter insists he’s edging ever closer to putting in place his squad for next season after two more of his current stars agreed new contracts with the club.

Having already tied up the futures of a number of his squad in recent weeks, scrum-half Stuart Townsend has committed his future to the club until at the least the summer of 2021 with a new two-year deal, while fellow number nine, Jack Maunder, has also penned a fresh one-year contract with the club.

The decision by the duo is yet more welcome news for Baxter, who believes the two...

Gloucester 24 Chiefs 17

Exeter Chiefs could be forgiven for thinking it was a case of deja vu as for the second successive season they were undone right at the death by rivals Gloucester in the Gallagher Premiership.

Whereas last season it was Jason Woodward who pounced in the dying embers, this time round it was Ben Morgan who inflicted the telling blow on Rob Baxter's side.

Morgan's late touchdown was not without controversy, however.

In the build-up to the England No.8 powering his way over just two minutes from the final whistle, it appeared Chiefs wing Tom O'Flaherty had been...
