Exeter Chiefs newcomer Jannes Kirsten says he can’t wait to get to grips with English rugby after completing his move to the Gallagher Premiership club.

The 25-year-old, who is equally adept at lock or in the back-row, joins on a one-year deal from South African Super Rugby side, the Blue Bulls.

Brought in to help bolster options in the back five of the scrum – particularly with Jonny Hill, Tom Price and Will Witty all currently recovering from summer surgery – the arrival of the Johannesburg-born forward is timely for Chiefs’ Director of Rugby, Rob Baxter.

The new deal was signed by swcomms' commercial director Jon Whiley in the presence of five of the club's 25-year-old players to mark the longevity of the sponsorship relationship.

swcomms began sponsoring Exeter Chiefs in the 1994/95 season when the communications and IT company agreed to pay for a new set of playing shirts for the first team. This has grown into a seven-figure deal that represents the longest running main sponsorship relationship in the...

The 30-year-old Australian departs having spent the past five years at Sandy Park, where he has amassed 113 appearances, scoring eight tries in the process.

Brought to the club during the summer of 2014 from London Welsh, Lees quickly established himself as a prominent figure in the Chiefs pack.

His on-field form was rewarded at the end of the 2015/16 season when he was part of the England Saxons squad for their summer tour to South Africa, whilst he has...

Exeter Chiefs have bolstered their ranks ahead of the new season by recruiting former Harlequins forward Stan South.

The 22-year-old, who can play either at lock or in the back-row, is Rob Baxter's fourth capture of the close season, joining the likes of Stuart Hogg, Tom Price and Will Witty in making the move to Sandy Park.

South was due to join Championship outfit Coventry this season on a two-year deal following his release from Harlequins, but following injuries at the end of last season to both Price and Witty, the Chiefs have themselves swooped to recruit the...

Twickenham heartache for Chiefs with 34 - 37 defeat to Saracens

At times it was like a Rocky Movie, the two prized fighters trading punches until finally one of them delivered the knockout punch that settled an epic encounter of English Rugby’s two heavyweight clubs.

Sadly for Exeter Chiefs, it was they who were eventually knocked to the canvas, floored by a brutal final quarter from Saracens, who have now added a Premiership title to that of their European Champions Cup crown.

In what was arguably the most pulsating Premiership Final ever, it was the Londoners who edged this classic bout, which yielded a total of ten tries - five for...

Kvesic gunning for Final glory

Last season it was a watching brief for Matt Kvesic, but on Saturday the all-action forward aims to lead from the front as Exeter Chiefs target Gallagher Premiership Rugby glory against Saracens at Twickenham.

Kvesic has been a stand-out figure for Rob Baxter’s side this season, producing a catalogue of impressive displays that have not only guided the Chiefs back to the capital for a fourth successive year, but at the same time have put the player himself back on a pedestal within English rugby’s top flight.

Not only has the former Gloucester and Worcester Warriors star...

Chiefs book Premiership final place

London’s Calling again for Rob Baxter and his Exeter Chiefs side as they powered their way into a fourth successive Gallagher Premiership Rugby Final with victory over Northampton Saints at Sandy Park.

As it was this time last year - and also in 2016 - reigning European champions Saracens will once again provide the sizeable hurdle that the Devonians will have to overcome in the end of season showpiece at Twickenham.

The Chiefs, though, will travel in confident mood, particularly given the way they dispatched the Saints in the second half of this encounter.
