‘Can Ewe Knit It?’ celebrates Shaun’s 30 years

Shaun the Sheep, the beloved stop-motion character created by Aardman, is celebrating 30 years since his debut in Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave (1995). To mark this milestone, Aardman has launched a global crafting campaign called ‘Can Ewe Knit It?’, inviting fans and crafters worldwide to knit or crochet Shaun-inspired woollen blanket squares.

Free visits to Dartmoor longhouse as part of Heritage Open Days

Cross the threshold of Higher Uppacott, Dartmoor National Park Authority's Grade 1 Listed longhouse, and step back in time to Medieval Dartmoor as part of Heritage Open Days 2013. This year Dartmoor National Park Authority has arranged a number of free visits to this unique building as its contribution to the national heritage celebration which runs from 12 to 15 September 2013. A war time effort at Killerton

A new exhibition has opened which features details of Broadclyst Primary School’s show stopping performance of 'Keep Calm and Carry On’ at Killerton House in June.

The entertaining promenade performance was developed by the schoolchildren in conjunction with Killerton staff and volunteers and gave the audience a rare chance to see World War II history brought to life in an innovative way. The performances were recorded on video and are now presented alongside displays of photographs, costumes and objects from the play.

The recent project known as This City’s Centre , created by the collective Blind Ditch, has been causing quite a stir in Exeter as it is getting residents to question what lies behind their city centre. The UK has become the world’s largest art gallery this summer.

The unique exhibition, Art Everywhere, has transformed thousands of poster sites and billboards into iconic artworks from the national collection.

Exeter’s iconic painting, Portrait of an African , is included in the exhibition. Previously identified as Olaudah Equiano but probably Ignatius Sancho, and attributed to Allan Ramsay (1713-1784), Portrait of an African is now on display in the Royal Albert Memorial Museum.

Running since 2008, the Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival is back for more from 19 – 22 September, boasting a dazzling line up of well-known authors and unique workshops.

Re-viewing Exeter in moving pictures

As part of an innovative digital art and performance project, a series of new short films about Exeter are being released in weekly episodes on screens across the city as well as online. The micro-documentaries ­– 12 in total ­ have been created by filmmaker David Salas and are based on the experiences and memories of Exeter residents.

Divided into two strands ­– A Tale of Two Cities and The Potential for Important Moments to Occur in Non-Descript Places – the documentaries focus on unknown aspects of the city and bring to light the personal experiences of some of its residents....
