Pawesome day out with pen farthing

Looking for the perfect way to round off the summer holidays? Head to Pawesome Day Out, a lively, family-friendly charity event on Sunday 31st August from 12pm at St Martin’s Football Club, Exminster—where fun, food, and four-legged friends take centre stage!

Organised by Claudia Pinn of Claudia’s Canines and the UK–Sri Lanka-based charity Lucas Helps Dogs, this event aims to raise vital funds for street animals in Sri Lanka. Proceeds will directly support spay/neuter clinics, emergency treatments, and life-saving vaccinations for dogs and cats in desperate need.

O&O Do Nozstock, Next Stop - Everywhere!

Local comedy duo O'Shea & O'Gaukroger had crowds laughing again with their appearance at Nozstock Music Festival last weekend. Crowds packed in to the Bantam of the Opera stage to see their fast paced sketch act over the two days. The O's were part of a comedy billing for the Festival which included stand up Josh Widdicombe and the fantastic new male sketch duo, Cardinal Burns- recently launched on E4 with their own comedy series.

Big films al fresco in Northernhay Gardens

Big Screen in the Park returns to Exeter’s Northernhay Gardens tonight (13 August) for four nights of fabulous films under the stars.

A different film will be shown each of the four nights on a 10m wide screen.

Along with the entertainment there are also several places to purchase food and drinks. The Little Devon Pizza Co will be serving up wood fired pizzas, Bar Belafronte will be offering specially selected craft beers and there you'll also find home-made butter fudge popcorn on sale.

Gates open at 7.30pm and the films start at approximately 9pm.

Exmouth RNLI prepare for open weekend

Fundraising volunteers from Exmouth RNLI are busy planning an open weekend at the Exmouth lifeboat station, Queens Drive, on 23 and 24 August.

The free event will be open between 10am and 4pm on both the Saturday and Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend. Dedicated members of the Exmouth Lifeboat Fundraising Team will be manning stalls and providing refreshments.

A quartet of Exeter Cathedral’s singers will climb the 175 steps to the top of the North Tower every day next week to entertain picnickers on Cathedral Green.

The singers will perform a short set at noon each day, and will sing a mix of sacred and secular music throughout next week (week beginning 11 August).

The North Tower of the Cathedral is 120 feet high and boasts spectacular views over the city and to Dartmoor and the coastline at Exmouth.

Visitors can go up the tower – the oldest part of the Cathedral at 900 years old - every half an hour through the summer...

Open Mic UK 2014 auditions come to Exeter

Open Mic UK is one of the largest national music competitions for singers and solo artists in the UK.

With over 9,000 entrants last year, they search for the UK’s best singers, singer-songwriters, rappers and vocalists who are yet undiscovered and they give them a chance to start a career in the highly competitive music industry.

They have unearthed stars such as Lucy Spraggan and also Luke Friend who came third in last year’s X Factor.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the First World War, an Exeter gallery is unveiling a miniature war sculpture that will also raise funds for The Royal British Legion. Castle Galleries, Exeter, will unveil ‘Never Forgotten’ by Nic Joly, a poignant commemorative piece to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.
