Top artists celebrate final exhibition for Spacex before new move

An art exhibition examining the importance of bees will be the final exhibition at Spacex’s Preston Street gallery before the organisation relocates to embark on a new way of working.

Twelve top artists will be taking part in Honeyscribe Hive, which examines our ancient relationship with the bee. The project leading up to the exhibition has involved scientists, artists, writers, beekeepers and the public.

Discovery evening at Exeter Cathedral

Exeter Cathedral will open its doors to the public for a special evening of discovery on Tuesday 19th April 2016 and admission is free.

Visitors will be able to see the stonemasons in action, learn how the library and archive team work to preserve the priceless manuscripts entrusted to their care and enjoy a rare opportunity to explore the Cathedral ‘after hours’.

There will also be crafts for children, demonstrations from the bell ringers, a chance to contribute to the Big LEGO® Build and much more.

Toby Buckland’s Garden Festival, which takes place on 29 & 30 April at Powderham Castle is aiming to create a little green oasis with trees and colourful Spring flowers in the centre of Princesshay Shopping Centre in Exeter in this Visit England ‘Year of the English Garden’.

The Seaside Train book launches

Starcross Primary School held a special launch last week for the publication of “The Seaside Train”, a book celebrating the unique and very scenic Riviera Line which links Exeter, Starcross, Newton Abbot and Paignton.

This book was inspired by the Citizens’ Rail train, a Class 153 single coach train which was given a special livery last year by Great Western Railway to celebrate the Citizens’ Rail project. Top Welsh choir to perform in Kenton

A world famous choir from Wales will be performing in Kenton next month.

The Pelenna Valley Male Voice Choir will be raising the roof at All Saints Church on Saturday April 9 (6:30pm) to raise money for local cancer charity FORCE.

The concert is being staged in memory of John Hunt, founder and former chairman of the Kenton Friends of FORCE group.

He loved singing and had close links with the choir for many years. At his funeral, Pelenna musical director Dr Michael Thomas offered to bring the choir back to Kenton.

Well done Team GemFest for another brilliant fun filled mini indoor festival at the Exeter Phoenix.

You’ve also raised money for Exeter Hospiscare – thank you Team GemFest and all the artists, businesses and volunteers who gave their time and the crowds who supported the event on Easter Sunday.
