Over 40 tutors and students from one of the UK’s leading flower schools, the Academy of Floral Art near Exeter, are joining forces to create a series of floral displays in the Grade II listed Poltimore House to mark St George’s Day weekend. Abandoned in the 1980s and now undergoing extensive renovation by the Poltimore House Trust, Poltimore is a Devonshire landmark and an evocative setting for a flower festival. Students from Shotgun Theatre, the University of Exeter’s award-winning musical theatre society, have raised over £2,000 for their Edinburgh Fringe show in just four days. Following a sell-out run in Exeter last November, the group are running a crowdfunding campaign to cover the cost of performing the musical ‘Godspell’ at the festival this August.

Exeter School's 16th concert for WaterAid

For the 16th year running and with support from South West Water and On Tap Water, the talented young musicians and singers from Exeter School will perform a special concert to raise funds for international charity WaterAid.

All proceeds from the concert, which takes place at St Michael's Church, Heavitree, from 7.30pm on Wednesday 26 April, will go directly to WaterAid projects in Zambia, helping some of the country's poorest communities gain access to clean water and safe sanitation.

RAMM has commissioned a new artwork from the internationally-acclaimed glass sculptor, Steffen Dam, for its major summer exhibition Sea life: Glimpses of the Wonderful.

Dam will produce an artwork consisting of around 16 ‘marine life’ jars containing plausible but fictitious organisms. The work will be inspired by RAMM’s extensive collection of marine specimens in Sladen’s Study. Chagstock 2017 day tickets go on sale

Chagstock Festival have announced that day tickets are now on sale for 2017.

Friday’s line-up includes Soul II Soul, Raghu Dixit, Slamboree and Undercover Hippy, whilst Saturday features The Shires, Dub Pistols, Skinny Lister, Mr Tea & The Minions, and house band New Crisis (featuring festival organiser Si Ford).

Day tickets start at just £55 per adult, and £40 per youth (aged 12 and up). Accompanied children under 12 are free as always and uniquely, a day ticket also includes one night’s camping.

RAMM Friends fill the gap

The Friends of Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) have added miniature by the renowned 19th-century Exeter miniaturist, James Leakey (1775-1865), to the city’s Fine Art collection.

The collection includes his drawings, portraits and landscapes but no miniatures; a significant gap for an artist whose reputation as a miniaturist extended beyond the borders of his Devonshire home. Research that revealed the gap was prompted by an enquiry by his descendants.
