The Day We Played Brazil

The Day we Played Brazil celebrates the 100th anniversary of the football match between Exeter City and the Brazil national team - the first-ever game played by Brazil. Based on the extraordinary true story of Exeter City FC's tour to South America in 1914 this musical play is performed by 100 local people telling the stories of the players and their wives, sweethearts and families back home. With plenty of music, tears and laughter along the way, as well as some great footballing moments, it's a story of adventure and excitement both on and off the pitch that will take the audience through the highs and lows of the hundred years in Exeter since the outbreak of the Great War. Flower Festival

The festival is open 10am-7pm on Thursday and Friday and until 5.30pm on Saturday. On Friday at 6pm there will be music performed by Chris and Josie Walledge and friends. The theme is “memories” and exhibitors are coming up with a wide and interesting range of titles. It will be fun to see how these are interpreted in flowers and memorabilia. Refreshments will be available.
Exeter Craft Festival

A celebration of the very best, artists & makers based in the South West over two days. This combination promises to be better than ever. Over 100 stalls in a unique tented village give the visitor the opportunity to see the work of the West Country's best artists and makers. Fun for all the family is planned as Exeter City Football Club celebrate the day they played the Brazil 100 years ago – the Brazilian national team’s first ever match. There will be sideshows, face painters, a magician, barbecue food and the bars will be open! Music will be provided in the afternoon by Streetheat Samba Band and Daniel Rangel from Brazil playing traditional Brazilian tunes with his friend Henry Dunne. In the evening Velvet Touch - famous in the South West since the 60s - will be playing. There will be loads for youngsters to see and do too. Stagecoach are also adding a City special open-top to their fleet in the city that afternoon!

Wyn Appleford - Painting for Pleasure

Painting for pleasure is an exhibition of paintings by local artist, Wyn Appleford, inspired by her travels in Britain and abroad, many with a maritime theme. The exhibition can be seen, free of charge, in the stable and tearooms until 30 July, 10.30am-5pm.
Detached and Timeless: contemporary Artists Inspired by Nature and Spirit of Place
Galleries 21 and 22, RAMM, Exeter
This exhibition explores how artists have been inspired by landscapes, nature and the seasons. Imaginary and mystical places have provided the stimulus for several of the exhibited artists; others have been inspired by Westcountry locations. Some touch on themes of spirituality and paganism. The results are pieces which are often abstract, sometimes representational and occasionally other-worldly. The exhibition features David Bomberg, Edward Burra, Prunella Clough, Terry Frost, Patrick Heron, Roger Hilton, Peter Lanyon, Richard Long, Rachel Lowe, George Shaw and Clare Woods. Detached and Timeless has been curated by RAMM in collaboration with the Arts Council Collection, with loans from Plymouth City Museum & Art Gallery. The exhibition runs until 2 November.
Summer Exhibition

This summer we are celebrating the artistic talent that the South West has to offer. John Hurford, Yvonne Coomber and Anthony Amos will each have a room dedicated to their powerful pieces and unique styles. Gallery 2 will showcase work from our core stable of artists, showing a variety of work ranging from landscapes and abstracts to creative prints. The Exhibition runs until 24 August.
Opening Doors - Exhibition of Sculpture
Buckfast Abbey
A variety of work will be on show at Buckfast Abbey until 31 October during an exciting sculpture exhibition Open Doors. The exhibition, organised by Dartmouth Contemporary Arts, will feature work created by the South West Sculptors Association. Visitors will be treated to a variety of work ranging from the contemporary abstract to the more familiar representational. Most sculptures can be seen in the ‘Physic’ and ‘Sensory’ gardens and artist details are available from the Abbey.
