Soften the Grey

When a young man dies tragically in a diving accident, he naturally assumes it’s game over. But when he arrives in a strange Citizens’ Advice Bureau for the deceased, staffed only by an eccentric and mysterious receptionist, things start to get a little confusing. Taken on a whistle-stop tour of the afterlife and of his past, the dead diver is shown a glimpse of any and every afterlife there is, and together he and the receptionist must work out which eternity is best for him.  www.bikeshedtheatre.co.uk

Twelfth Night

Alice Through the Looking Glass

Our Big Gig: Underground Minifest

Sobinov and Exeter Children's Orchestra

Budleigh Music Festival 2014

Exeter Symphony Orchestra Concert

Rosa Rebecka

Tiverton Hot Air balloon, Music and Food Festival 2014

This spectacular weekend will see the skies above Tiverton transformed into a canvas of colour as hot air balloonists from across the UK and beyond take part in a wide array of activities including the stunning Mass Ascents, Public interaction Sessions and the dazzling Fire and Light Shows. Middlemoor Fire Station community open day
Saturday, 10am, Middlemoor Fire Station, Sidmouth Road, Exeter
Middlemoor Fire Station will be hosting a community open day from 10am until 4pm. Demonstrations will be taking place throughout the day and there will be fun and games for all family, including a bouncy castle and special guests. Proceeds will go towards Operation Florian and the Fire Fighters Charity.

City of Exeter Rowing Regatta
Saturday, Exeter Quay
Over 100 sprint races take place over a 400 metre course along the River Exe.  This provides close, exciting racing all day with eights, coxed fours, pairs, quads and single and double sculls. The rowing regatta is a great day out for the family. 10.30am-6.30pm.  www.exeter-regatta.co.uk

An interactive music and arts fun in aid of the Magic Carpet project. The day will have lots of interactive arts and music activities in a day of fun, creativity, laughter and inspiration! Free entry.

Summer Fayre

A great afternoon of fun from noon until 4pm. You’ll find a bouncy castle, tombola, games, Exmoor Zoo with their animals, ferret racing, afternoon tea, international food offerings, stalls, music and lots more!

41st Historic Vehicle Gathering
Saturday &  Sunday, Powderham Castle
The biggest event the Crash Box & Classic Car Club organises. Veteran, vintage and classic cars, motorcycles, classic commercials, full size and miniature steam engines, Classic Car Club stands and displays, trade, autojumble and craft stalls, children's entertainment and refreshments. Topsham Food Festival and Longest Table
Saturday & Sunday, Topsham
As in previous years, there will be a Food Festival on Topsham Quay on Saturday, as well as activities at Dart's Farm and in the Pebblebed Cellar. Activities on Topsham Quay will include a Slow Food Market, cooking demonstrations with local chefs, street food vans serving excitingly delicious foods, and live music in the evening. On Sunday morning, the community will turn out once more to help to assemble the 'longest table', comprising this year of nearly 300 tables set edge-to-edge and stretching all along Topsham's Fore Street. Sport and Well Being Fun Day
Sunday, 11am, Exeter Quay & Piazza
Active Devon co-hosts a Sport and Well Being Fun Day at Exeter Quay & Piazza from 11am-4pm to encourage everyone to get active for life.  All ages and abilities are welcome to come and sample sports and healthy lifestyle activity. The day will offer taster sports from a range of organisations including Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre, South West Athletics Academy, Exwick Tennis Club and Exeter Martial Arts club.  For the children there will also be face painting and a bouncy castle. www.activedevon.org/sportandwellbeingfunday

Family Community Festival
Saturday, 1pm, Allhallows Field, Honiton
Following the success of last year’s event, the fun afternoon, running from 1pm to 4pm, means children can enjoy face-painting, circus skills run by SWITCH, a bouncy castle and many other attractions, all for free! Among the other attractions on the day will be an African drumming workshop, sports with Honiton Youth Club and a fingerprinting demonstration by Police. The Rugby Club Bar will be open all afternoon and there will be music. EDDC’s Countryside team will show youngsters how to make decorative items out of natural materials. Honiton Community Church are providing sandpit play, arts and crafts and refreshments and there will also be an ice cream van on hand to keep everyone cool. The fun  starts at 1pm and continues until 4pm.

EXHIBITIONS

Painting for Pleasure: Wyn Appleford
A la Ronde, Exmouth
Painting for pleasure is an exhibition of paintings by local artist, Wyn Appleford, inspired by her travels in Britain and abroad, many with a maritime theme. The exhibition can be seen, free of charge, in the stable and award winning tearooms at A la Ronde near Exmouth until 16 July, 10.30am-5pm. A la Ronde is open daily and entry to the exhibition in the stable and tea-room is free.

Art Exhibition
Broadclyst Parish Church
Work by Exeter Art Society and Broadclyst Primary School, 10am-6pm on Saturday and noon-6pm on Sunday. Cream teas, lunches and refreshments available.

Two Printmakers
Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World (CCANW), Innovation Centre, University of Exeter
The 'Two Printmakers' Catherine Cartwright and Alison Savic produce their work at Exeter’s Double Elephant Print Workshop, where Catherine is a director. Her process of drypoint-collagraph explores human rights stories around the world through the destruction of built environments. Alison’s linocuts, drypoints and monoprints feature several of the buildings of the University. All work is for sale. The Innovation Centre is open Monday to Friday 8:30am until 5:30pm. www.ccanw.co.uk
