Weekly rep continues at the Manor Pavilion Theatre in Sidmouth this week with the arrival of the ninth production of 2015, Wait Until Dark by Frederick Knott.

The suspense thriller will play from Thursday 27 August to Wednesday 2 September 2015.

The Summer Rep Season sees one company of actors present a season of twelve classic revivals throughout summer, with a new production each week until the end of September.

Susie Hendrix is a blind housewife, who inadvertently becomes the target of three con-men. Unbeknownst to her, Susie's husband has become involved in drug smuggling and has hidden a large stash of heroin in a toy doll he has given her as a present. The con men get wind of this and break into Susie's apartment, holding their breath and remaining silent as they wait for Susie to lead them to the drugs. When she realises their presence, she smashes every lightbulb in the house to even the odds, and a nail-biting battle of wits begins. This masterfully constructed thriller moves from one moment of suspense to another as it builds toward an electrifying, breath-stopping final scene.

Wait Until Dark original opened on Broadway in 1966 where it ran for 374 performances. It transferred to the West End where it ran for 2 years and starred Honor Blackman and Peter Sallis. In 1967 the play was adapted into a feature film by Warner Bros, starring Audrey Hepburn.
