Lyme Regis is set to become a top annual venue for folk music when it hosts the first Lyme Folk Weekend at the end of August.

Lyme Folk Weekend will round off the summer with some of the country's finest folk acts at the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis, as well as a full-on programme of singing, dancing and entertainment - in pubs and cafes in and around the town and on the sea-front - plus lots of free family events.

Headline acts Turin Brakes, The Albion Band, Spiers and Boden and Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick, will be supported by a host of rising stars, the headliners of tomorrow, many locally based.

The organisers hope that the festival will be the first in a line of many to come. Julie Sheppard, festival publicist said:

“Lyme Regis is already famed for its natural setting – it’s not called the Pearl of Dorset for nothing - and we’d like to put it on the map for folk music too. We’ve gone for top name headliners. We’re smaller than some of the better known festivals such as Sidmouth or Purbeck but we’ve got big ambitions to stage annual must-see events”.

Lyme Folk Weekend will take place over the last weekend in August from Friday 30 to Sunday 1st September. The timing is no accident according to Julie Sheppard, “What better way to see out the summer, before everyone goes back to school, work and college, than a weekend of exuberant music and dancing by the sea. Small, but perfectly formed, we think we’ve got a line-up and supporting programme to rival any in the country”.
