Jon Hopkins + supporting DJs plays rare small gig - in Exeter !

7RAYS is a new non-profit music promotions initiative whose mission is to provide a sustainable platform in the West Country for electronic music that may fall outside the remit of the usual electro-genre classifications, resonating particularly with the psychedelic state of mind.

To keep these nights alive, as we believe in small venues that allow meaningful and symbiotic connection between audience and artist, sustainably for the future, we need the support of the local community and visitors from afar alike. It's a financial tightrope to stay afloat and make these events happen, and we believe now more than ever, sounds and rhythms which push our perceived boundaries are a critical part of human well being and positive evolution into a future where we thrive, sustainably and in harmony with all things, with health, happiness, strength and love.

So we have organised this benefit evening, which we hope will kickstart us into providing at least a couple of gigs a year, which whilst initially focusing on the more beat-driven spectrum, would also hopefully, with your support, branch into more experimental and ambient territories.

Our venue for this will be MOVE, on the beautiful quayside in Exeter, with the River Exe flowing alongside. Move is an small underground tunnel/cavern/smugglers cache with an absolutely killer Funktion-One sound system, clear definition & power without breakup ,perfect for immersion into sounds from realms unknown. Decor and lasers will be provided by the amazing NEUROTRITION.

So for this inaugural 7RAYS gathering, we have JON HOPKINS plus 2 other electronic music DJs happily coming to support our vision and to work that Move Funktion-One rig.  For want of a better word we'd call it a coup, so here we are, and we very proudly present :

JON HOPKINS dj set -

Jon Hopkins is one of electronic music’s most distinctive, creative and talented artists. He’s put out his bewilderingly intricate fusions of techno & ambient on five full-length albums, and his unique sound has earned him many accolades as a pioneer of contemporary electronica. His latest album, the masterful and epic 'Singularity' is much critically revered, and the spectacularly psychedelic audio-visual live show has repeatedly sold out around the world.

It is, therefore, an honour to have Jon come to Exeter to play us some of the most visceral and mind-enhancing gems in his collection.

BARKER dj set -

As a musician, DJ and co-founder of the Leisure Sysem label, Sam Barker has helped push the boundaries of dance music in Berlin, looking beyond the realm of 4/4 techno to explore left-field sound design and rhythmic complexity. His musical approach – both solo and in the duo Barker & Baumecker with longtime Panorama Bar resident nd_baumecker – unselfconsciously combines bass music tropes, breakbeat, dub and ambient elements while still maintaining a strong connection to the dancefloor.

We are super-chuffed that Sam is coming over from Berlin to play his unique hyperactive ambient-techno for us.

JACHIN BOAZ (Polyrhythmi) dj set -

Jachin Boaz is a member of Ishq, Elve and Polyrhythmi who make probably the most transcendent, transformative, magical, psychonautic music in the universe, blurring the boundary of matter and energy, ordinary reality and magic.

To get Jachin Boaz on stage here in Exeter is a momentous occasion which tallies with this man's reputation as one of the finest electronic musical entities active in the world today.
