Exeter Corn Exchange announces spring programme

Exeter Corn Exchange has announced details of the new events programme for spring.

Highlights include the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, stars from TV’s Strictly Come Dancing, the Vienna Festival Ballet, comedian Jon Richardson, X Factor winner Joe McElderry and Ruby Wax.

The new season starts with a concert by Elkie Brooks, one of the most successful singers the UK has ever produced on Friday 24th January and that is followed on Tuesday 28th January with Britain’s Got Talent finalists Circus of Horrors with their new gruesome show London after Midnight.

The first Exeter Comedy Club date of the new year was on Friday 7 February when a LOL festival special featured stand/up magician Ali Cook and three other top acts from the stand-up circuit.  Auditions for the national TeenStar talent competition were on Saturday 8th February and Medium Derek Acorah appeared on Sunday 9th thFebruary.

Folk Rock giants Fairport Convention return to the Corn Exchange on Wednesday 12th February and the venue hosts the Exeter Dance Festival from 15th until 22nd February.  Oysterband are next up on Wednesday 5th March, followed by another Exeter Comedy Club evening on Friday 7th March.

Vienna Festival Ballet present their production of Cinderella on Wednesday 12th March and 60s and 70s superstars The Fortunes bring their Past & Present tour to the venue on Saturday 15th March.  Jon Richardson, one the country’s top stand-up stars appears on Monday 17th March and it’s comedy of a different type on Friday 21 st March from Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown.

On Sunday 23rd March the Corn Exchange hosts the Classics of Rock Show featuring The Strawbs, Curved Air and Martin Turner’s Wishbone Ash, and then on Friday 28th March the Rat Pack bring their highly acclaimed show to the venue on its 15th anniversary tour.  Comedian Lee Hurst appears on Saturday 29th March with his new show Things That Make You Go Aaarggh!!

The regional final of TeenStar is on Sunday 30th March and BANFF mountain film festival is on Wednesday 2nd April with another Exeter Comedy Club evening on Friday 4th April and Feast of Fiddles featuring seven of the best folk fiddlers in the country appear on Wednesday 9th April.

Blondie & Bowie on Friday 11th April brings together two of the country’s top tribute acts in Atomic Blondie and The Bowie Experience.  Missy Malone & Friends Burlesque Review is on Saturday 12th April and multi award winning wildlife cameraman Doug Allen presents his new show In the Company of Giants on Sunday 27th April.

Irish folk legends The Fureys and Davey Arthur perform on Monday 28th April and 2009 X Factor winner Joe McElderry is in concert on Thursday 1st May with comedian Ed Byrne presenting his new show Roaring Forties on Friday 2nd May.

On Saturday 3rd May the Corn Exchange team moves to the City’s Riverside Leisure Centre to present a concert by the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain.  The orchestra have previously appeared at the Corn Exchange but demand for tickets has been so great that this time they are moving across the City to the larger venue.

Exeter Comedy Club returns on Friday 9th May and Magic, A Kind of Queen appear on Saturday 10th May.  Ruby wax performs her new show Sane New World on Wednesday 21st May and Spanish Flamenco arrives in the form of Jaleo Flamenco on Wednesday 28th May.

Highlights a little later in the year include guitarist Albert Lee with his band Hogan’s Heroes on 7th June, Stars from Strictly featuring Pasha, Katya and their spectacular dancers on 28th June and the Johnny Cash Roadshow on 2nd July.  Autumn events already confirmed include Henning Wehn, Omid Djalili, Joan Armatrading and Colin Fry.
