East Devon District Council and LED are proud to announce that Seaton’s new Jurassic themed adventure golf course at Seafield Gardens, is now ready for play and will be opened officially at 10.30am on Friday 7 April, although people will be able to play on it from 1 April 2017.

Built on the site of the former putting green, the course’s eye-catching design features plenty of fun Jurassic themed course decorations and timber or stone obstacles, in the shape of stone fossils, dinosaur bones, dinosaur eggs, rocks/boulders and fossil style edging of the golfing areas.

East Devon’s StreetScene team has been busy landscaping the course to get it ready in time for the opening. The site now features an imaginative planting scheme, including several palm trees worth over £1,000, which the council has supplied and planted free of charge. StreetScene will continue to provide ongoing maintenance for the site.

The artificial nine-hole mini golf course, which will be used by both local residents and visitors to Seaton, has been funded with Section 106 money - collected by the district council from developers for new homes they have created in Seaton. The total cost of the scheme’s hard construction was £71,500.

The idea for the mini golf course came from Seaton Town Council, who along with the town’s residents, community groups and sports organisations were asked by East Devon District what sporting facilities they would like to see in the town. The adventure golf course was the most popular choice among a range of suggestions put forward and voted on by the local community.

The mini golf’s Jurassic theme highlights Seaton’s link to the Jurassic Coast and LED Leisure, who will run the facility, have worked with East Devon and Seaton Town Council on the course’s design.

Seaton’s new adventure golf will be open during the Easter Holidays every day from 1-17 April and again on the 1 May Bank Holiday, plus every weekend from 1 April to 24 September 2017.

Over the summer, the course will be open every day from 29 May until 8 September 2017.

Entry is free of charge for LED Unlimited members and only £3 (Adults) and £2 (children) for non members.

Councillor Paul Diviani, Leader of East Devon District Council, said: “I am delighted to be opening this superb new leisure facility, which we hope both local residents and visitors to the area will enjoy using. The course is in an excellent position within the town, which should help encourage people to try it, plus it is also on a safer site as it is not near busy roads. It’s also in keeping with other leisure activities, such as the adjacent tennis courts and outdoor gym.

“The adventure golf course’s Jurassic theme dovetails perfectly with our other enormously popular attraction – Seaton Jurassic – which has already proved a great success, winning the runner-up award for Best UK Day Out for Families at the annual Family Traveller Awards.”

Councillor Marcus Hartnell, East Devon District Council’s lead councillor for Seaton and Chairman of Seaton Town Council, said: "Local people have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the adventure golf course at Seafield Gardens and I am certain it will be a big hit with children and adults alike. It is a fantastic facility for Seaton, which will encourage visitors to fully explore this part of the town."

Steve Davies from LED’s marketing team said: “The Jurassic themed adventure mini golf recognises the unique heritage of the East Devon Jurassic Coast.  It’s a fun family attraction, perfect for the school holidays!”
