Pride and Celebration: Isca Academy Hosts Civic Awards for Local Young Changemakers

Young people from across Devon were recognised for their commitment to citizenship, leadership and community service at a special Torbay and Devon Civic Award ceremony held at Isca Academy this month.

The event, which celebrates the achievements of Year 6 pupils who have gone above and beyond in helping others, brought together proud students, families, and staff from schools across the region to acknowledge months of voluntary service and personal growth.

Sidmouth College has been celebrating a glowing report from its recent Ofsted inspection.

The college continues to be recognised as a ‘good’ school with many outstanding features.

Inspectors from the school standards agency recognised the college’s rapid improvement over the last three years and said the outcomes achieved by students across all year groups was very strong.

They said the leadership within the college was a strength with the leadership team giving the college a clear direction which was driving the pace of improvement.

Free leisure courses for Government research

Adults across Devon can learn a new skill for free in 2017 as part of Government research project looking at ways to improve mental health and wellbeing.

Devon County Council’s adult education service, Learn Devon, is offering free leisure courses in subjects including arts and crafts.

It is part of an England-wide project which aims to develop, deliver, share and evaluate educational approaches to support mental health.

The courses will be running at Learn Devon centres in Exmouth, Newton Abbot, Totnes, Tavistock and Bideford until July 2017, when the project ends...

Exeter College has been placed in the top spot in a league table of colleges published by FE Week, an industry leading publication focused on delivering the latest further education and skills news.

Primary academy trust to run ‘virtual’ online open days

An East Devon primary school trust is holding ‘virtual’ online open days over the next few weeks, using technology to help parents decide on the right school for their children. The events will take place on 15 and 23 November and 6 December, and there will also be conventional open events on 22 and 30 November.
