Devon beach education company in top UK 100

Devon’s Beach Schools South West company – which puts the coast onto the educational curriculum – has been honoured at 10 Downing Street after being recognised by an organisation promoting small businesses.

The not-for-profit community company is among 100 across the UK chosen by the organisation Small Business Saturday, which supports and promotes smaller companies.

Beach Schools South West takes children out on to beaches in the region to teach them subjects tied in with the National Curriculum, including ecology, geology and conservation.

On Monday 27th November, Premiership Rugby star and Ex QE Student, Jack Yeandle came back to Queen Elizabeth’s School in Crediton to deliver a Rugby Masterclass.

As part of QE’s afterschool Rugby Club, Jack led the session with QE’s Rugby stars of the future. Jack also reminisced about the start of his Rugby playing career representing QE. Students found it fascinating to hear him speak of the last game that he played for the school, on the Barnfield pitch against Torrington school, as a Full back rather than his current position as a hooker!

“Exceptional” University of Exeter trainee teachers are helping to “significantly enhance” the quality of education in South West schools, inspectors have said.

Exeter primary school and law firm bring Christmas cheer to Moldova

An Exeter primary school and a solicitors’ office have joined forces to bring some Christmas cheer to people in the poorest country in Europe.

Children at Kenton Primary School and staff at Gilbert Stephens solicitors have put together dozens of festively decorated boxes of presents for those living in poverty in Moldova, formerly part of Romania.

The shoeboxes all contain basic items such as soap, toothbrushes and facecloths, warm hats and gloves, along with notebooks, pens, coloured pencils, and sweets. Boxes for children contain small toys and games.

Royal Navy signs up to official partnership with South Devon UTC

Even more employment opportunities have been made available to students in Newton Abbot as a pioneering technical institution has made its employer partner collaboration with the Royal Navy official.

Captain David Joyce from the Royal Navy attended the charter signing and will now help shape the curriculum, provide Challenge Projects and offer work experience to ensure South Devon UTC students are ready for work when they finish Year 13.

Children in last term’s Year 2 and Year 4 at Broadclyst Community Primary School (BCPS) are thrilled to have won the Devon History Society Primary School History Prize the first time it has been awarded. Members of the Society visited the school and presented the prize, of history books for the school library, and a framed certificate, during the Remembrance Day assembly on Friday, 10 November.

Broadclyst School children record their own school advert at Heart Radio

Ten children from Year 6 at Broadclyst Community Primary School helped to devise and record their own radio advert for the school’s open days at Global Radio HQ in Exeter on 3 November.

The youngsters are currently taking part in the school’s Global Enterprise Challenge, an annual business enterprise initiative that incorporates a wide range of business skills while encompassing many different elements of the school curriculum. The trip to the Heart Devon radio studios allowed them to learn more about business advertising and marketing as well as to produce the school advert....

The Board of Governors of Blundell’s School, have today 13th November, announced that Mr Bart Wielenga has been appointed as the new Head of this leading co-educational day and boarding school. Mr Wielenga will take up the position with effect from September 2018.

Mr Wielenga will become the thirtieth Head of Blundell’s School and will succeed Mrs Nicola Huggett when she leaves to become Head at Cheltenham College.
