There's an ongoing debate on the value of written tests in schools in the UK. Some parents think that these exams are of no value, and don't necessarily test the extent of children's skills and knowledge.

Many parents see the 11+ CEM and GL assessments as limiting and not a true reflection of their child’s ability and potential.

People who study thoroughly for tests end up getting high scores, but it doesn't mean they understood the concepts of what they learned in class. It also doesn't mean that they understand the real-life practical application of the lessons.

Next Steps South West’s work at Exeter College is set to continue as the National Collaborative Outreach Programme has been extended for a further two academic years, with a new completion date of 31 July 2021.

Established in January 2017, Next Steps South West (NSSW) operates out of 14 partner universities and colleges throughout Cornwall, Devon and Somerset with the aim of providing impartial advice to young people who are trying to navigate their journey to higher education.

Students from Exeter College have been celebrating success following the National BTEC Awards 2019.

A total of nine Exeter College students were recognised at an awards ceremony that took place in Westminster in July. The event celebrates exceptional BTEC students and apprentices while also shining a light on the inspirational teachers who have influenced their learning.

Exeter College’s Luke Bearpark was crowned Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Student of the Year with Abbie Densham being awarded Science Student of the Year.

Youngster scoops top regional prize in national health careers contest

A 10-year-old girl from Woodwater Academy in Exeter has been crowned regional winner of Health Education England’s (HEE) Step into the NHS primary school competition.

Lilly Sparks, who hopes to one day become a nurse, produced an imaginative poster expressing thanks to the NHS to impress the judges and win the South West regional award.

Exeter College students are celebrating after achieving the best International Baccalaureate (IB) results in the college’s history.

This year the prestigious IB saw a 100% pass rate, with almost a third of students (32%) achieving 40+ points. Devon schools awarded Computer Hub status

Three Devon schools have become among the first in England to be awarded official Computer Hub status so they can provide support and specialist training for teachers in the region.
