Find World Book Day costumes for free in Devon libraries

Libraries Unlimited is partnering with Recycle Devon to bring World Book Day costume swap rails to 15 libraries in Devon. World Book Day 2026 is Thursday, 5th March and library swap rails are running from 16th February to 8th March. Customers are invited to donate outgrown, unwanted children’s costumes in good, wearable condition. Costumes will be available to take home for free!

A BBC investigation has revealed that an employee of integrated support services company Carillion, which provides infrastructure services at six Exeter schools (West Exe, St Peter's C of E, St Luke's, St James', Isca and Wynstream Primary School) attempted to cover up a test result that revealed the water supply at St Peter's C of E School contained almost 10 times the legal limit of iron.

A prestigious education prize has been awarded to an academic from the University of Exeter for a research paper on literacy practices for children with severe learning difficulties. GCSE German pupil takes first prize in Goethe Institut Digital Days Competition

A GCSE German pupil from Exeter School has taken first prize in a prestigious Goethe Institut competition.

Middle Fifth (Year 10) pupil Katie Hayman was awarded first place in the News Reading category of the Digital Days Competition for which she had to film herself reading the news in German.

Katie beat almost 150 applicants to win a £50 prize and impressed the panel of judges who said it was very difficult for the selection panel to come to a decision.

British Sign Language Club launches at Exeter Central Library

Devon County Council’s Exeter Central Library is launching a regular BSL Club this month.

Taking place on the last Thursday of every month (starting 29 August), from 7-9pm, the free group will be an informal gathering and is open to deaf and hearing users of British Sign Language.

It’s a great opportunity to meet friends, share deaf news and views and get access to information available in the library.

There will also be tea, coffee and biscuits!
