Congratulations to Year 10 QE student, Ava Fitzhugh, who recently brought home two big musical wins!

Ava competed in the District Final of the Rotary Young Musician of the Year 2019, between winners in Devon and Cornwall this weekend at Fowey (she already won the East Devon final) and managed to win her stage.

Ava sang Handel and Mozart and goes on to compete at the Regional Finals on 31St March.

Ava also competed at the Taunton Festival of the Arts 2019 winning Taunton Young Singer of the Year. Last year Ava won in the junior section, but this year she was competing against seniors up to 18 years old. Ava also scooped up £200 in prize money! Ava, and other winners, will sing in a recital in July.

Principal of QE, Rupert Poole, said; “This is a fantastic result, we are extremely proud of Ava’s musical achievements and wish her the very best of luck for the Rotary Regional finals next month.”

The Rotary Young Musician of the Year Competition gives participants the chance to experience performing on a public stage and receive feedback from experienced judges, plus it offers a great chance for future collaboration with fellow musicians.
