Local community invited to consultation for new Exeter Maths School

The first consultation for the new Exeter Mathematics School (EMS) will be held on 28 August at the University of Exeter.

The new school will be a mathematically oriented, academic sixth form, providing an environment in which those with an interest in, and aptitude for, mathematics can be stimulated, developed and stretched.

The EMS is due to open in September 2014, with 30 year 12 students drawn from Devon, Dorset, Cornwall and Somerset  and is co-sponsored by the University of Exeter and Exeter College.

One of only two specialist mathematics schools in the UK, the EMS will contribute to the on-going development of mathematics teaching and learning. The school itself will raise aspirations locally among mathematically able young people and help enhance the supply of capable undergraduates, in mathematics and closely related fields such as statistics and computer science, with the potential to become the mathematicians whose work underpins the technological innovation of tomorrow.

This is a great opportunity for parents, prospective students and employers to find out more about the school and its ethos, to support the school and to influence the shape of the curriculum.

The public consultation event is taking place on 28th August 2013 at the University of Exeter.  There will be a drinks reception from 5:00pm followed by a presentation and Q&A session from 6:00pm in the Xfi Building.
