Three Year 12 pupils at Blundell’s School, Tiverton, will be representing the West at the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Schools’ Analyst national final, having just won the regional heat.

The team of Yuli Lu, Francis Huntingford and Toby Whitehead finished first in the Western Region, ahead of schools such as Exeter, Cheltenham Ladies College and Bristol Grammar School. It’s the second successive year that a Blundell’s team has won this event, which is organised by the RSC Analytical Division for first year sixth form students studying chemistry.

Yuli, Francis and Toby go on to the national final at the University of Keele in June to compete against schools representing the seven other regions, and are hoping to do as well, if not better, than last year’s Blundell’s team who came second.

At the final, they’ll be required to undertake various practical analytical tasks based on problems relevant to industrial or social needs with the aim of demonstrating their knowledge and aptitude for analytical science and learning new skills.
