CLIC for Christmas: Calling Devon schools

Following the huge success of last years event, La La Choirs, together with CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, are again putting on a concert in Exeter Cathedral on the evening of Friday 9th December 2016.
The La La Choir will be performing two sets at the start and end of the concert with young people who have previously been supported by CLIC Sargent performing as guests. We have one spot left for a guest act.

We would like to offer all Devon schools and Academies, with students aged 12 to 18, the opportunity to bring a choir along to perform in this fantastic venue for a 20 minute slot.

Performing at the Cathedral is a wonderful experience for any choir. Aside from performing in an impressive building, it has great acoustics and an amazing atmosphere.  The other opportunity would of course be singing to a large audience. There are 900 seats and we fully expect it to be a sell out again.
Last years winners were The Park Community School, Barnstaple. Here is what Headteacher, Gareth Roscoe and Head of Music, Matt Street, had to say about their experience.

“I can wholeheartedly endorse the Devon Schools Choir competition, held in partnership with La La Choirs. The Park Community School were fortunate enough to be the winners of this competition in 2015. Students and staff involved thoroughly enjoyed the competition and the opportunity to perform with La La choirs and other artists at the finale in Exeter Cathedral.  The benefits of the competition were shared across the whole school community with many parents, staff and students seeing and hearing our students perform.  This is a great community event, raising the profile of making and enjoying music with the opportunity to perform in a fantastic venue. This has created many happy memories for our students (and staff) that will last for a long time.  It was a privilege to work alongside Sam and her team during the performances.  She is an inspiring individual who really brings music to life. “ Gareth Roscoe

“The Park School student’s were delighted to be chosen as winners of the Devon Choir Competition. The opportunity to perform at Exeter Cathedral alongside professional musicians such as Rebecca Newman was inspiring.”  Matt Street

This is a fantastic opportunity to perform in one of Devon’s best concert venues and to support a charity that makes a real difference to the lives of children and young people with cancer, and their families.

A panel of consisting of Musical Director, Sam Abrahams, Area Fundraising Manager for CLIC Sargent, Sarah Shaw, professional musician and teacher, Alex Wilson and a guest judge, will select four schools as finalists who will then audition live for us singing the song they submitted by Mp3 plus one other.  These songs must be part of the set to be used at the concert.

Registration deadline is Monday 9th May 2016
Mp3 submissions must reach us by Friday 1st July  2016
Finalists will be announced on  Monday 11th July 2016
Finalists will then perform live on Friday 23rd October with the winner announced that day.
The choir must have a minimum of 15 singers, the maximum is 50

All proceeds from the CLIC for Christmas concert will be donated to CLIC Sargent, registered charity number 1107328. CLIC Sargent also encourage school choirs entering the competition to get involved in their Practice-a-thon campaign where pupils can get sponsored to practice for upcoming exams or a show, or put on a Practice-a-thon concert or performance in aid of CLIC Sargent. By signing up to Practice-a-thon at www.clicsargent.org.uk/event/practice-thon your pupils can have fun develop their musical and singing skills and help children and young people with cancer at the same time.
