Sergeant from Devon & Cornwall Police raises thousands for Spinal Research ​

On Sunday 21 April 2024 a Devon & Cornwall Police Sergeant completed this year’s London Marathon in a wheelchair, raising more than £3,000 for the charity Spinal Research.

Sergeant Andy Elliott, who works in the training department based at Force HQ in Exeter, does not use a wheelchair in his day-to-day life. He decided to take part in a chair to show support for his close friend Andrew Russell who suffered a serious spinal injury in 1996 and does use a wheelchair.

Both Andy and Andrew were members of the same football club at Exeter University in the mid-1990s....

Exeter housebuilder turns pink for charity

David Thomas, the chief executive of five star housebuilder Barratt Homes, was on hand last week to lend his support to the company’s fundraising efforts for Wear it Pink Day.

The fundraiser, on Friday October 20, is part of Breast Cancer Now’s fundraising during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

He’s encouraging staff across the region to wear something pink on the day and donned a pink hard hat to show his support.

The Exeter branch of RGB Building Supplies is hosting a charity breakfast morning in aid of Children’s Hospice South West on Friday 3rd November.

Taking place between 7.30am and 10.30am, those visiting the branch will be able to purchase a bacon roll with 100% of the proceeds being donated to the Children’s Hospice South West. Tea and coffee will also be available.

A networking group of young Exeter professionals celebrated their relationship with the city’s YMCA, when they attended a Black Tie dinner and dance on Friday October 20th hosted by the youth support charity.

A skittles challenge organised by The Family Law Company in Exeter raised over £800 for FORCE Cancer Charity.

The annual event was held at St Thomas Social Club in Cowick Street with teams from Magdalen Chambers, Thomas Westcott Accountants, Energess and two from hosts, The Family Law Company.

CEDA Charity launch new Mini Bus

Members of Devon based disability charity CEDA gathered at the charities base in Exeter to celebrate the arrival of their new accessible minibus. CEDA users, charity supporters, fundraisers and members of the staff team gathered to witness the parents of former CEDA user Greg Hurford cut the ribbon to mark the official launch of the new minibus. CEDA CEO Renata Colley said: “We are all thrilled with the new minibus – it’s going to make enabling our users to access our many services easier and more reliable. East Devon's Countryside team and volunteers boost Hospiscare funds

East Devon District Council Countryside team and volunteers recently raised over £145 in aid of local charity Hospiscare by hosting a coffee morning at Seaton Wetlands.

Volunteers baked a range of delicious cakes, which were sold for a donation to help support patients with a life limiting illness, and their family and friends, in Exeter, mid and East Devon.

Attendees were able to enjoy their refreshments in the Reed Base or on outdoor seating in the picnic area or by the pond.

At midday the Sidmouth Walking Festival joined the event and a group of around 30 walkers...
