East Devon District Council Countryside team and volunteers recently raised over £145 in aid of local charity Hospiscare by hosting a coffee morning at Seaton Wetlands.

Volunteers baked a range of delicious cakes, which were sold for a donation to help support patients with a life limiting illness, and their family and friends, in Exeter, mid and East Devon.

Attendees were able to enjoy their refreshments in the Reed Base or on outdoor seating in the picnic area or by the pond.

At midday the Sidmouth Walking Festival joined the event and a group of around 30 walkers enjoyed a welcome break. Participants were treated to a short talk about the management of Seaton Wetlands by East Devon District Council Countryside team leader James Chubb who oversees the management of Seaton Wetlands.

Cllr Tom Wright, East Devon District Council’s portfolio holder for the environment, said: "The beautiful setting of Seaton Wetlands is the perfect location to enjoy a morning tea break. It is fantastic that the volunteers at Seaton Wetlands were able to use the site to raise a considerable sum for Hospiscare, while giving people the opportunity to explore the Local Nature Reserve.’’

Susie Healy, Community Fundraiser at Hospiscare said: "Coffee mornings provide a great chance for local people to get together and support their local hospice. Seaton Wetland is the perfect location as walkers, bird watchers and cyclists were able to take a break from their activities and enjoy a slice of cake they felt they had ‘earnt’, while also supporting Hospiscare. We are very grateful for all the hard work the staff and volunteers put into their coffee morning and the amazing array of cakes they had on offer is reflected by the donations they received.’’
