Sergeant from Devon & Cornwall Police raises thousands for Spinal Research ​

On Sunday 21 April 2024 a Devon & Cornwall Police Sergeant completed this year’s London Marathon in a wheelchair, raising more than £3,000 for the charity Spinal Research.

Sergeant Andy Elliott, who works in the training department based at Force HQ in Exeter, does not use a wheelchair in his day-to-day life. He decided to take part in a chair to show support for his close friend Andrew Russell who suffered a serious spinal injury in 1996 and does use a wheelchair.

Both Andy and Andrew were members of the same football club at Exeter University in the mid-1990s....

Ashill Inn support Headway Devon

A local pub has raised a fantastic £510 for local people with brain injuries following their Christmas draw.

The Ashill Inn in Cullompton decided to support Headway Devon following the experiences of two of their regular customers, Anne and Dave Brummitt. The couple have been supported by the charity after Dave sustained a brain injury in 2016. Anne commented “We are very grateful to the Ashill Inn for raising this money, and to Headway Devon who are a real lifeline for us.”

When Neil Brown, aged 53 from Dunkeswell, started swimming regularly at the age of 28 he had no idea how large a part of his life it would become. Neil’s mum originally suggested he take up some form of exercise to keep fit, but swimming lengths at his local pool in Honiton has become something of an obsession.

Families get behind Exeter Deaf Academy in Devon’s first Monster Race

Exeter Deaf Academy, one of the official charity partners for the Monster Race, are delighted to have families tackling the muddy challenge this weekend, raising funds that will make a real difference to young deaf lives.

The Exeter branch of RGB Building Supplies is continuing its fundraising for Children’s Hospice South West with an Easter competition.

Between Monday 12th March and Monday 26th March, the branch is inviting customers to make a donation and guess how many mini eggs are in a tub for the chance to win a Marvellously Magnificent Easter egg from Thorntons.
