Local disability support service awarded £5,000 from The Cadbury Foundation

Local disability support charity, Community Equality Disability Action (CEDA), has received a £5,000 donation from The Cadbury Foundation, thanks to the support of local Mondelēz International employees in Crediton.

CEDA, which is a Devon-based charity dedicated to promoting the social inclusion of people with physical, sensory or learning disabilities, was selected by employees based at Mondelez International’s Crediton site, as part of The Cadbury Foundation’s annual ‘Your Charity, Your Choice’ programme.

Devon Air Ambulance one of eight Air Ambulances supported by Hall & Woodhouse

Hall & Woodhouse, the leading independent family-owned Dorset brewer, has raised £114,287 in aid of eight local air ambulance charities in the past year, including Devon Air Ambulance.

At the beginning of 2018, Hall & Woodhouse’s (H&W) team members voted to make the eight Air Ambulances their official charity partners until 2020. Through the partnership, Devon, Dorset and Somerset, Great Western, Hampshire and Isle of Wight, Kent Surrey Sussex, London, Thames Valley and Wiltshire Air Ambulance will receive support from the company.

Singing penguins boost funds for Alzheimer’s Society

The charity team at Otter Garden Centres in Ottery St Mary is delighted to reveal the total raised for 2018 charity of the year, Alzheimer’s Society, which came to just over £8,000.

The money will help fund services across Devon and fund important research into dementia.

Team Leader Mary Harrison, who helps coordinate the fundraising, said: “Each year we are amazed by the generosity of customers and staff, and we’re delighted that the total is even higher than the last one, so a big thank you to everyone who donated.”

West Country house builder raises over £25,000 for Children's Hospice South West

Local independent house builder, Devonshire Homes, has helped fundraise thousands of pounds for the charity that provides vital hospice care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families across the South West.

Having supported Children’s Hospice South West for two years, Devonshire Homes has raised a total of £25,154.96. The funds will help the charity care for more than 500 families, providing respite care and short breaks, as well as emergency, palliative and end-of-life care from its three hospices in North Devon, North Somerset and Cornwall.

Two charities are set to benefit from money raised by co-operative retail colleagues in Devon thanks to the support of their local customers.

More than £2,600 will be donated to Southern Co-op’s retail store charity partners which include Bow Recreation Group CIC and RNLI Exmouth.

The local causes were chosen last year by store colleagues to become their charity partner for a year – many of the stores are now inviting new applications for 2019-20.

Snows Toyota’s latest charity car raffle landed Janette Greenslade a new AYGO and raised just under £5000 for a local cancer charity.

Throughout December, visitors to Princesshay Shopping Centre in Exeter were invited to enter a draw for the chance to win a Toyota AYGO X-Play, worth £10,510.

Proceeds from the £2 tickets have gone to FORCE Cancer Charity, which funds research and equipment to improve local patient care.

Provincial Grand Lodge of Devonshire boots funds for CHSW

Children’s Hospice South vWesthospice South West’s Little Bridge House hospice has been chosen to receive a grant of £746 from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Devonshire Freemasons.

The grant comes through the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF), and will be used to help provide respite care and support for the children and their families at the hospice in Fremington, North Devon.

This is just one of 237 grants to hospices around the country from Freemasons. In total £600,000 will be donated to hospices all over England and Wales this year.

PEOPLE in the South West are being urged to show support on World Cancer Day for everyone affected by the disease.

Cancer Research UK is calling on men, women and children to wear one of the charity’s brightly coloured Unity Bands with pride on Monday, February 4.

Every hour, around four people are diagnosed with cancer in the South West.*
