Exeter charity launches free "Joy Rides" to help people get cycling again

Ride On is launching a new, free cycling programme aimed at beginners, people returning to cycling after a break, or anyone looking for a sociable ride to help them get back outside this summer.

Called Joy Rides, the sessions launch on Saturday 18 July and run weekly through to September, alternating between Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings to fit around work, family, and shift patterns. Each ride follows one of three easy, mostly traffic-free routes around Exeter Quay, the Exe estuary, and Topsham, led by trained ride leaders and open to all abilities.

THIS September – Childhood Cancer Awareness Month – people in Devon and Cornwall are being called on to clear out their wardrobes to help more children and young people survive cancer.

They are being urged to donate pre-loved quality fashion and homeware to TK Maxx’s Give Up Clothes for Good campaign, in support of Cancer Research UK for Children & Young People.

When sold in Cancer Research UK shops, each bag of items donated could raise up to £25 to help fund research into children’s and young people’s cancers.

Howdens Joinery in Exmouth hold charity day for Amica Care Trust

Howdens Joinery, located in Exmouth, held its annual trade day on August 19th with local builders to help raise money for Amica Care Trust.

The store offered a free hog roast, welcomed donations, and encouraged people to join the festivities.

Amica Care Trust who owns and runs Exmouth House Care Home, located on Long Causeway sent a team of residents and staff members to join in with the planned activities. The team organised a raffle, sold crafts items and just enjoyed meeting and talking to businesses from the local community.

People from Devon can get on their bike and raise vital funds for Diabetes UK this autumn by taking part in a cycling challenge.

The UK Wide Cycle Ride runs throughout September and is a perfect opportunity to take your fitness up a gear while raising money for diabetes research along the way.

Wealth manager Brewin Dolphin’s South West offices (Exeter, Plymouth and Truro) have been busy organising and taking part in various fundraising challenges for their chosen charity, Exeter-based Farms for City Children , and have raised £10,000 since January 2020.

Their latest endeavour was the Brewin Dolphin 7-Day Challenge, which saw members from the respective offices walk, run or cycle 655 miles collectively over seven days, raising over £1,000 for Farms for City Children.
