Exeter charity launches free "Joy Rides" to help people get cycling again

Ride On is launching a new, free cycling programme aimed at beginners, people returning to cycling after a break, or anyone looking for a sociable ride to help them get back outside this summer.

Called Joy Rides, the sessions launch on Saturday 18 July and run weekly through to September, alternating between Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings to fit around work, family, and shift patterns. Each ride follows one of three easy, mostly traffic-free routes around Exeter Quay, the Exe estuary, and Topsham, led by trained ride leaders and open to all abilities.

Wheelchair user to complete charity marathon in one month for Hospiscare

Chris Long, a wheelchair user with cerebral palsy and a customer of Bluebird Care Exeter, is spending October fundraising for Hospiscare, by partaking in their Marathon in a Month event.

He was inspired to take part after seeing a poster on Exeter’s Quayside during one of his regular outings with his Bluebird Care Exeter Care Assistant. He told the Care Assistant that he would love to take part and signed up.

Chris’s mission is a challenging one. During October, participants must cover 26.2 miles, in their own way and at their own pace.

For its latest Surprise Supplies giveaway, RGB Building Supplies is inviting charities from across the area to get in touch and explain how a donation of £1,000 worth of building materials would be of benefit to them.

Whether a charity needs to complete some essential repairs, update an outdoor area, give their space a lick of paint, or create an accessible bathroom, RGB would like to hear about it.

Devon NHS Ride of Thanks fuels Honiton-based charity Blood Bike for almost a year thanks to generosity of hundreds of motorcyclists

Motorcyclists in their hundreds showing their appreciation for NHS and essential workers have raised funds to keep a Honiton-based charity Blood Bike on the road for almost a year.

The Devon NHS Ride of Thanks raised more than £2,967 for the Devon Freewheelers charity thanks to the generosity of more than 600 motorcyclists’ donations.

The event raised almost £3,000 for the Devon Freewheelers – the equivalent cost of fuelling one Blood Bike for almost a year, funding 277 journeys, to support the NHS and its patients for free.

An Olympic mother-and-daughter duo are inviting people from Devon to join a month-long charity challenge for runners of all abilities.

John leads cycle team on Tour de Devon for FORCE

A team of cyclists will embark on their very own Tour de Devon this week to raise money for FORCE Cancer Charity.

John Heathershaw from Exeter (pictured second left above) set himself the challenge of a coast-to-coast ride to celebrate five years of being cancer clear.
