Exeter Airport firefighters raise over £2,500 for Young Lives vs Cancer

Two firefighters from Exeter Airport have raised more than £2,500 for charity after successfully completing the gruelling 100km Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge in South Wales.

Chris Briggs and Iwan Jones, who serve with Exeter Airport Fire & Rescue Service, took on the two-day endurance event to support Young Lives vs Cancer, a charity that provides vital help to children, young people and their families facing cancer.

The cause was especially personal for Chris, whose sister-in-law, Kaley Fitzsimmons, passed away 10 years ago at the age of just 33 from osteosarcoma...

Military Wives Choir launch album in Princesshay

The Military Wives Choir wowed shoppers when they performed in Princesshay to celebrate the launch of their second album, Stronger Together.

Twenty-eight of the wives spent the day being pampered by Princesshay retailers before the album signing and performance, on Monday (November 5).

Some wives had their hair cut and styled at SAKS hair salon, others had hand pampering at Molton Brown and others had relaxation treatments at The Cove. And then there were the makeovers at various beauty counters in Debenhams for some of the wives to enjoy.

As if spending all day on their feet working as part of Exeter University’s campus services team wasn’t enough, Wayne Hill and Mark Fabris are tackling a sponsored walk from Exeter Quay to Exmouth on Saturday 10th November to raise funds for Hospiscare.

Wayne, a committed supporter of the charity, which provides end-of-life care for local patients and their families, says he is doing the walk because he cares passionately about the service they provide.

A group of ‘Mo Bros’ from Exeter-based chartered accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards are preparing for a particularly hairy few weeks as they raise money for men’s health programmes by taking part in ‘Movember’.

Animal welfare at crisis point, warns RSPCA chief

Animal cruelty, neglect and suffering are reaching unprecedented levels in modern times according to the RSPCA, the UK’s largest animal welfare charity.

World Stroke Day highlights the importance of recognising TIA signs

Thousands of people are at risk of stroke because they fail to recognise the signs of a Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA, also known as mini-stroke), according to the findings of a new poll(i) launched today on World Stroke Day (29th October 2012).

A Stroke Association survey of over 183 members of the public in the South West, conducted by ICM Research, revealed that:
