Exeter Airport firefighters raise over £2,500 for Young Lives vs Cancer

Two firefighters from Exeter Airport have raised more than £2,500 for charity after successfully completing the gruelling 100km Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge in South Wales.

Chris Briggs and Iwan Jones, who serve with Exeter Airport Fire & Rescue Service, took on the two-day endurance event to support Young Lives vs Cancer, a charity that provides vital help to children, young people and their families facing cancer.

The cause was especially personal for Chris, whose sister-in-law, Kaley Fitzsimmons, passed away 10 years ago at the age of just 33 from osteosarcoma...

Celebrity Chefs help Lesley to raise cash for Hospiscare

An apron featuring the signatures of 14 celebrity chefs will be raffled at Darts Farm on 15 June to raise money for a local charity.

Plucky Lesley Weeks from Exmouth contacted the world-famous chefs, including Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay, Paul Hollywood and Heston Blumenthal, in September last year after she signed up to complete a 450k cycle challenge across Vietnam and Cambodia.

A project to help unite a mission community has raised nearly £3,000 for the diocese Sand Dam Lent Appeal. This now takes the total to £8,874.

“I’m absolutely thrilled!” said the Revd Chas Deacon, Diocesan Companion Links Mission Officer. “This will help us to make a good start towards assisting water security in the Thika Diocese in Kenya. There’s a lot to be done!”

Exeter solicitors PLOD for Action: it’s no walk in the park!

Six teams from Stephens Scown solicitors in Exeter will, on Friday 7 June, take on the Cotswold Way PLOD for children’s charity Action Medical Research.

The walking challenge is no walk in the park, covering 40 miles through the night.

Exeter technology inventor to speak at conference

Andrew Stamp, the CEO of Exeter-based company Brain-In-Hand, will be one of the keynote speakers at The Autism Show later this month.

Mr Stamp will discuss 'the human side of assistive technology' at the prestigious event at ExCel in London. The Autism Show is a national event for autism dedicated to parents, carers and professionals.

Mole Avon & Crediton Milling raise money for Hospiscare

To help celebrate Mole Avon Trading Limited’s 40th anniversary and their Ruby Appeal for Hospiscare, the company teamed up with Crediton Milling and together have raised £1,241 for the local charity.

During a four week period at Mole Avon’s retail branches in Axminster, Crediton and Okehampton for every bag of Layers Mash or Layers Pellets sold 50p would be donated to Hospiscare.

Crediton Milling, based at Fordton, Crediton is one of the few remaining family owned and run independent feed mills in the Westcountry and the have been supplying animal compound feed to Mole Avon...

Cooking courses with a difference at Hospiscare

Charity-run cookery classes which have helped novices in Devon to fend for themselves in the kitchen, will be running again this June.

The Hospiscare Catering Team at Dryden Road Exeter began the series of courses in September last year and have taught people, many who have never had to cook for themselves, basic culinary skills.

The courses are for anyone who has found themselves alone following a bereavement or are looking after a poorly partner and doesn’t have the first idea how to prepare and cook a basic meal.
