Exeter Airport firefighters raise over £2,500 for Young Lives vs Cancer

Two firefighters from Exeter Airport have raised more than £2,500 for charity after successfully completing the gruelling 100km Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge in South Wales.

Chris Briggs and Iwan Jones, who serve with Exeter Airport Fire & Rescue Service, took on the two-day endurance event to support Young Lives vs Cancer, a charity that provides vital help to children, young people and their families facing cancer.

The cause was especially personal for Chris, whose sister-in-law, Kaley Fitzsimmons, passed away 10 years ago at the age of just 33 from osteosarcoma...

RSPCA Little Valley Shelter Day & Fun Dog Show

It's that time of year again! It's time for the annual Shelter Day and Fun Dog Show at RSPCA Little Valley Animal Shelter, based just outside Exeter past Swains Garage at Pocombe Bridge.

Sadly, due to the bad weather last year's event was postponed and eventually cancelled. Lucily, this year, the weather forecast looks great for Sunday so it's all systems go!

Exeter Round Table raises £250 for Hospiscare

Richard Kaye, Chairman of Exeter Round Table, recently met with Celia Wilkinson, Events Fundraiser of Hospiscare for the handover of a donation of £250 raised prior and following the Hospiscare charity walk on 16 March 2013.

The Atass Group were crowned 2013 champions of the Exeter Business Games at the final event of the competition at Exeter Quayside on Friday 21 June.

The Exeter Urban Farm is going to be a reality soon! We've just signed the licence to use 188 Sidwell Street above QS. Land Securities have been amazing and we're now in the position to get cracking. We need support from a local business.

We will be refitting the space with the necessary equipment and structure to grow mushrooms and we need people to help out. It would be a great team building event for anyone interested.

Flower enthusiasts in Exeter are being sought to help a local charity provide a colourful and fragrant environment for its patients.

Hospiscare is looking for volunteers with a flair for flower arranging to join its flower team; arranging floral bouquets from small to bigger projects around the hospice.

The hospice, based on Dryden Road, Exeter, receives donations of flowers each week from funeral tributes and supporters of the charity, as well as a huge weekly donation from the Sainsbury’s store on Alphington Road.

Next Sunday, 30 brave participants from Exeter and beyond, will be dusting off their trainers and perfecting their shimmying at 'The Ultimate Danceathon' for Cancer Research UK. Three local instructors will be joining forces to deliver three hours of dance fitness. Included in the day will be the ever-popular 'Zumba', up-and-coming Bollywood fitness sensation 'Just Jhoom!', and 'Swagga Fit'; a fantastic new workout developed by the local 'Vibes Dance Company'!
