Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

ES Group conquer Three Peaks for charity

Four colleagues from Exeter property and asset consultants, ES Group, have completed the gruelling National Three Peaks Challenge, raising money for chosen charity, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The 25 mile challenge, which involves scaling the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales – an ascent in excess of 10,000 feet – within 24 hours, was completed in a time of 23 hours and seven minutes by Gary Hooper, Jason Hall, Matthew Hartley and Philip Gibson, all from ES Group’s Exeter office.

The team has already raised over £1,850 and hopes to raise still more...

Local opticians support veterans

Camoflauge and war paint were in on Saturday when staff from an Exeter opticians raised awareness and funds for the Blind Veterans UK.

On Saturday 28 June staff from Specsavers Exeter dressed up in camouflage to raise money for the charity. In addition, they have raised funds throughout June for the cause.

Calls for change in attitude to disabled

The Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities are calling for a change to the language used about people with learning disabilities and the way they are represented in the media, in order to tackle the increase in bullying, harassment and hate crime.

Social media and the internet are places where high levels of bullying and hate crime are experienced by people with learning disabilities, as well as when they are at home, at work or out in their communities.

Caring for animals at Paignton Zoo is a real team effort. Take the work that goes into looking after the zebras’ hooves. With horses it’s straightforward, but the zebras are wild animals. The task requires vets, vet nurses, keepers, a farrier, a lot of mobile technology and a general anaesthetic.

Funfair raises £200 for St Loye's

Funfair and amusements business Anderton & Rowlands has made a generous donation of £200 to support St Loye’s Foundation.

The donation will be used to buy a communications toolkit to enable young adults, who are not able to express themselves, to do so with more confidence.

Three mountains in three countries in 24 hours – that’s the challenge facing animal staff from two local zoos.

Keepers from zoos including Paignton Zoo Environmental Park and Newquay Zoo in Cornwall are taking on the Three Peaks Challenge in aid of wildlife conservation.

The Exeter Lions Club are making it easier for people to return their NHS crutches, walking sticks and frames to the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital when they are back on their feet. Hundreds of employees from a waste management firm which collects waste in Devon have geared up to take part in a 2,400 mile, UK cross-country cycle tour to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Big Ride cycle relay, organised by national recycling and waste management company SITA UK, staged a Grand Depárt from one of the company’s northern-most sites near Aberdeen on May 12 and will now finish at its most southerly facility in St Erth, Cornwall, on June 20 – six weeks later.
