Amy Martin during treatment for breast cancer and recently with her family

Amy tackles huge challenge to thank FORCE

Twelve months ago, Amy Martin could barely run at all after a tough regime of cancer treatment.

But on Sunday May 24, she’ll be one of 440 people lining up as part of Team FORCE at Exeter’s Great West Run.

Amy aims to raise £1,000 for FORCE Cancer Charity to say thank you for all the support she has received from them since a diagnosis of breast cancer in late 2023.

She has signed up for the 10k — the 13.1 mile half marathon option wasn’t on the cards — and admits: “I will be walk-running, but I will finish it because I am a bit stubborn and — let’s be real— I’ve...

This Exeter family together hope to raise £50,000 by taking on Exeter’s Great West Run in a bid to help four-year-old Sophie Joy walk unaided for the first time.

The team is made up of Sophie's father Daniel Case, Deborah Down, grandmother and Jade Down, auntie.

Sophie has battled Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy from a very young age, and despite the tireless efforts of her parents to support her with as much physio at home, she will only see her condition improve significantly with an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy.

Sophie’s mother Gemma was fortunate...

Stars of TOWIE, BGT and the X Factor to appear at Exeter charity ball

The Harry Cunningham Trust, which raises money for Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital’s neonatal unit, is staging a glitzy celebrity ball, open to the public, in Exeter’s Sandy Park.

The trust, set up in 2012, aims to raise awareness of vasa praevia, a rare but deadly condition affecting unborn children where vital blood vessels block the birth canal, resulting in severe complications. The trust was begun after the condition led to the tragic death of Harry Cunningham, the son of trustee and founder Niki Cunnigham, at just 26 hours old.

It now continues to help sick babies,...
