Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

Bicton lecturer completes ironman challenge

Adventure seeker Derek Brown has successfully completed the Ironman Wales competition, which is considered to be one of the toughest Ironman courses on the international circuit.

Incorporating a choppy 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile hilly cycle followed by a full marathon through the narrow streets of Tenby, West Wales, Derek completed the course in a fantastic time of 12 hours and 35 minutes.

Physiotherapists bake off for Hospiscare

Physiotherapists at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in Heavitree have raised over £200 for Hospiscare by holding their ‘Big Devon Bake Off’.

Inspired by their love of cake, the department pulled out all the stops to host a baking competition for the charity’s September event, presenting an impressive range of baked confections for judges Liz Jacobs and Jane Middleton.

New arrival to Exeter, A-Plan Insurance, has underlined its commitment to support the local community by becoming an official supporter of Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT).

The newly opened A-Plan branch on Sidwell Street will be donating £20 per new policy sold in the branch to DAAT when the charity is mentioned.

To mark the commitment, A-Plan is providing the focal point for National Air Ambulance Week from Monday 22 September, with a stand outside its offices from which members of DAAT will be raising money on Wednesday 24 September.

People with learning disabilities help homeless charity

People with Learning Disabilities in Newton Abbot are helping a charity for the homeless by growing vegetables for them in their allotment.

Users of Devon County Council’s Fulfilling Lives Service (based at The Passmore Edwards Centre in Newton Abbot), have been running their own allotment in Kingsteignton for two years.

The group started up the plot from scratch, which includes raised beds for wheelchair users, an accessible potting shed, and a small sensory garden.

Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, has joined the fight against breast cancer by taking part in Breast Cancer Campaign’s flagship fundraiser, wear it pink day.

The theme of wear it pink this year is to ‘look good, do good’ in support of breast cancer research.

On Friday 24 October people across the country will come together to find fun and stylish ways to wear pink in the office, at home or at school. Donations raised by this year’s fashion inspired event will go to Breast Cancer Campaign to fund lifesaving breast cancer research.

The first ever Devon Wine and Music Festival at the renowned Pebblebed Vineyard at Clyst St George, near Exeter, was a huge success.

Hundreds of people enjoyed the cosy atmosphere of this very special festival – the high quality singers and musicians came from within a five mile radius and the food was local too.

Wine tasting from seven Devon vineyards took place in the barn and the rural idyllic scene was complete with children enjoying the space and freedom to have a straw bale fight, pick blackberries and race around the vineyard fields.

Scientists will be practising an unlikely conservation technique in a Paignton wood - hitting trees with big sticks!

An East Devon man has set himself the challenge of walking all 630 miles of the South West Coast Path to raise funds for a charity that helps children in Guatemala.

Adam Burgess, from Farway, volunteered with the Phoenix Projects in 2007-8, where he taught children in a variety of subjects.

“I experienced first-hand what difference a little money and a lot of dedication can make to children living in poverty,” he said.
