Amy tackles huge challenge to thank FORCE

Twelve months ago, Amy Martin could barely run at all after a tough regime of cancer treatment.

But on Sunday May 24, she’ll be one of 440 people lining up as part of Team FORCE at Exeter’s Great West Run.

Amy aims to raise £1,000 for FORCE Cancer Charity to say thank you for all the support she has received from them since a diagnosis of breast cancer in late 2023.

She has signed up for the 10k — the 13.1 mile half marathon option wasn’t on the cards — and admits: “I will be walk-running, but I will finish it because I am a bit stubborn and — let’s be real— I’ve...

Paignton Zoo Environmental Park has launched an online In Memoriam book for people with a special affection for the Zoo. And the first names in the book are those of two very special people.

Sylvia and Tony King were long-time Zoo supporters and volunteers. Their son Alan, also a volunteer, recalls: “My father’s parents were keen on the Zoo. They knew Philip Michelmore, who was Herbert Whitley's friend and successor. We were all members of what was then known as the Peacock Association in the late ‘60s. My father started to volunteer after he retired in the late 1980s. He was...

This week we pay tribute to the leaders of the 355 voluntary organisations in Exeter that all rely on the dedication, energy and commitment of around 2,000 trustees in order to support their beneficiaries.

Hundreds of events will be taking place this week as charities use Trustees’ Week as a time to thank the one million trustees across England and Wales for their time and dedication.

Trustees are the people ultimately in charge of a charity. They make decisions that help charities achieve their aims and change their beneficiaries’ lives.
