Amy tackles huge challenge to thank FORCE

Twelve months ago, Amy Martin could barely run at all after a tough regime of cancer treatment.

But on Sunday May 24, she’ll be one of 440 people lining up as part of Team FORCE at Exeter’s Great West Run.

Amy aims to raise £1,000 for FORCE Cancer Charity to say thank you for all the support she has received from them since a diagnosis of breast cancer in late 2023.

More than 40 staff, supporters and learners at WESC Foundation collected £1439 at Sandy Park on Saturday, when Exeter Chiefs played against London Welsh, winning 74/19 to storm into second place in the Premiership.

WESC Foundation was founded in 1838 and is based on the Topsham Road in Exeter. The charity is dedicated to sharing knowledge, expertise and technologies through effective partnerships and transforming the lives of those affected by visual impairment.

Stan continues to hit the right note

This year marks a significant milestone for FORCE Cancer Charity and its association with one of the most popular musical icons in the Exeter area.

The Stan Hacking Concert Band is preparing for its 15th performance in aid of the charity and has already raised more than £12,000.

Devon Homes to boost charity's funds

A South West charity is set to get a boost of £10,000 thanks to a regional property developer.

Devon-based Devonshire Homes has adopted Hospiscare as its charity of the year, and has pledged to raise the cash through a range of initiatives.

Hospiscare provides care and support for patients and their families living with a terminal illness and has centres in Exeter, Mid Devon and East Devon. All of its services are free and the charity needs to raise over £5m each year to continue to care for the 2000 patients who use its services.

Charity champions at Mecca Exeter are celebrating after being invited to a celebration event, in the presence of HRH The Princess Royal, to celebrate their fundraising success for the charity Carers Trust.

Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park is supporting a charity game of tag rugby which 15 year old organiser, Daniel, hopes will last more than 24 hours. Daniel, who attends Uffculme School, has a passion for sport, plays for Cullompton RFC U15's and is also an Army Cadet.

The 7-a-side Rug-a-thon will raise money for Help for Heroes, a charity Daniel has wanted to support from a young age. Daniel is looking for people of all ages and abilities to support the event at Uffculme School on Friday 20th March from 5pm through to the evening of Saturday 21st March.

Quiz raises funds for horse simulator appeal

The ‘BEST Charity Pub Quiz’ hosted by the WESC Foundation at the School Hall at their Topsham Road site, attracted over 100 entrants from the local business community.

Sponsored by Thomas Westcott, the event was part of a focused fundraising campaign to raise much needed funds for a new mechanical horse and riding sessions for disabled learners.

Pints in hand - The Dawdling Dads might not look busy but really they’re hard at work in their Silverton local planning their fundraising for a charity walk.

Otter Nurseries is holding a wheelbarrow raffle on Mothering Sunday to raise funds for Charity of the Year, ELF.

Tickets for the raffle cost £1 and will be available to buy at the garden centre near Ottery St Mary all day on March 15.

The lucky winner will not only receive the contents, worth over £150, but also the wheelbarrow itself, bringing the total value of the prize to around £250.

The charity ELF supports families affected by blood disorders and cancers across the South West, and is currently fundraising for a new family suite at RD&E.

Students from Exeter’s twin city visit YMCA

YMCA Exeter were excited to welcome a group of 26 French Health and Social Care students on Tuesday, who had made the 366 mile journey from Exeter’s twin city, Rennes, to visit the charities Supported Housing Project.

Statistics from French campaign group “Les morts de la rue”, show that one homeless person dies every 20 hours in France, hence the purpose of the visit for the students was to find out more about the work of YMCA Exeter and understand how the challenge of homelessness is tackled in the U.K.
