Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

Golfers invited to aim for national glory

Golfers from across the South West will make their way to Staddon Heights Golf Club in Plymouth early next month in their quest to qualify for the final of a national competition.

The annual Licensed Trade Charity Golf Tournament sees teams of four golfers taking each other on in a series of regional qualifiers. The Devon heat, taking place on Friday 4th September, allows golfers of any standard to play at one of the South West’s premier golf courses and puts them within 18 holes of representing the county at the Sky-sponsored Grand Final in North Berwick in October.

FORCE shop set for short-term closure

The award-winning FORCE Cancer Charity shop in Heavitree will close on Friday (August 21) for essential refurbishments.

Building work will begin on September 1 and the first phase is due to be completed in time for a partial re-opening in the first week of October.

Phase 2 should be done by the end of October so that the shop can fully re-open in early November.

Kitsons raise £5k in Three Peaks Challenge

Twenty-four members of staff from leading Devon law firm Kitsons braved the elements and successfully overcame the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

Their reward for completing what is known as one of the toughest challenges in the UK was raising more than £5,000 for Diabetes UK in memory of their colleague Mark Batten.

Mark, who was Chief Cashier at Kitsons, passed away suddenly in March 2014. He worked at Kitsons for over 35 years and was a prominent and well liked member of the firm.

A brother and sister from Exeter whose dad has survived cancer are saying a supersized ‘thank you’ for every action, big or small, that’s helping Cancer Research UK fight the disease.

Keon, 8 and Erin Byrne, 6, from Bradninch posed with a giant ‘Thank You’ card alongside their dad Matt, aged 42, who has been treated successfully for cancer of the tongue.

Family raises £6,200 for two Exeter charities

A family braved gale force winds during a 955 sponsored cycle ride to raise money for two Exeter charities who cared for their mum. Four members of Kathryn Hall’s family spent nine days in the saddle cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End.

So far the team has raised £6,200 for Hospiscare and FORCE, the local charities which supported Kathryn Hall, from Silverton, who died in March 2014.

The cyclists faced strong winds, lashing rain and more than nine miles of vertical ascent.

Keep your amazing Twilight Walk sponsorship money coming in and help Hospiscare reach its £50,000 target!

On a glorious sunny evening last month more than 800 women, dressed in Hawaiian party outfits and walked along Exmouth’s seafront and around the town. Walkers came from Exeter, East and Mid Devon to support the local charity which helps patients and families living with a terminal illness.

So far they have raised £48, 515 and Hospiscare fundraiser Charlotte Knipe is keen to remind anyone who has not yet returned their sponsorship money to do so.

Exeter Wheelers feature in road safety video

The Exeter based cycling club Exeter Wheelers played an integral part in the filming of the SPACE; a road safety video created by Chris Boardman and BikeBiz editor Carlton Reid.

The video titled SPACE has now gone viral online with over 45,000 views in less than 24 hours aims to educate drivers on how much room a cyclist or group of riders need when overtaking them.

As Boardman points out, riders aren't just an obstacle to be avoided, they are people's loved ones.

ITV’s Seth runs GWR for CHSW

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is delighted that ITV Westcountry reporter, Seth Conway, is going to be running Exeter’s Great West Run on behalf of the local children’s charity in October.

Seth ran his first marathon last year in Barnstaple, for which he also chose to run for CHSW. A coastal conservation charity is helping young people to face the natural world with more confidence by organizing close encounters with some amazing creatures.

Accountants' 325 mile ride for charity

Bishop Fleming’s Exeter office set out on their quest to raise funds for Hospiscare.

A team of accountants from Bishop Fleming’s Exeter office are taking part in a cycle relay challenge to raise funds for local charity Hospiscare.

The 15 strong team will be starting from their office at Stratus House, in a four day relay that starts from the firm’s Truro office and finishes in the Worcester office.
