Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

Summer Recital of Light Classical Music

On Saturday 5 September award-winning Flautist Leonie Stevenson-Jones, supported by soprano Victoria Armillotta, will be hosting an evening of light classical music to raise funds for local charity Rainbow Living.

Leonie will be accompanied by local composer and arranger Alfie Pugh, and Victoria by Anne Jones. The evening’s programme will include, amongst others, J.S Bach ‘Sonata in B minor’, Rutter ‘Waltz from ‘Suite Antique’, Telemann ‘Fantasie no.2 in A minor’, von Gluck ‘O del mio dolce ardor’ and Roger Quilter ‘Music, when soft voices die’,

City gears up for Mum's Bike Ride

A family from Exeter are asking for support for their second annual bike ride in memory of their late mother and wife, Bridget Johns, who sadly lost her battle with cancer in March last year.

Chris Johns, one of the organisers of the event and owner of Exeplore - The Bike Bus says: “Mum’s Bike Ride was such a great success last year, we had such an amazing turnout.

"We would like to bring even more families together and remember loved ones in 2015.

Princesshay will be hosting the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Bag It. Beat It. event on Saturday 5th September which urges the Exeter community to donate bags full of their unwanted items to be sold in local BHF shops.

Every bag donated will help fund life saving heart research, helping over seven million people continue to fight heart disease. Last year the BHF raised over £130 million from voluntary income alone. Charity completes Moldovan project

Sixteen volunteers from the UK have successfully completed a challenging building project in Moldova, Europe’s poorest country, in order to improve the living conditions of impoverished children.

The 11 day programme was the third and most significant of its kind run by The Moldova Project, a charity founded by Emma Watson who studied English at the University of Exeter from 2009 to 2012.

Tickets on sale for Classics Galore!

Tickets have gone on sale for this year’s Classics Galore! concert at the University of Exeter Great Hall on Saturday November 14 and the best seats are selling fast.

The event has been held every two years since 2007 and has raised £50,000 for local cancer charity FORCE.

The show regularly attracts sell-out crowds of more than a thousand and spaces in the gallery have nearly all been snapped up already with only 25 of the £18 seats remaining.

Rachael Phillips, a medical lab assistant at the RD&E, has signed up to ‘Brave the Shave’ and have her hair cut off for Macmillan Cancer Support on 4th September.

Macmillan provides specialist support to people with cancer and their families. This summer they are asking people to stand proudly alongside men and women who have cancer and be sponsored to shave off their hair for the charity.

Pret A Manger prepares to open in Exeter

Pret A Manger will be opening the doors to its westernmost UK shop next month; a spacious corner site on Exeter’s High Street. Due to open mid-September, the new shop is creating up to 20 new jobs, which the company is currently finalising recruitment for. Refreshments raise thousands for Hospiscare

An ongoing fundraising initiative at Chilcotts Auctioneers has raised nearly £7,000 through sales of refreshments to eager visitors.

Every auction day, Chilcotts hands over the staff kitchen to the local Hospiscare team to sell teas, coffees and snacks including delicious home-made cakes and bacon rolls.

The initiative began in 2011 after Chilcotts discovered an old kitchen in a dusty room adjacent to the saleroom in Honiton; the room was being used by Stags Estate Agents to store their sale boards.

Exeter physio joins charity mission

An NHS physiotherapist from Exeter has returned from a charity mission to transform the lives of patients and improve services in rural Kenya.

Amy Souster spent 10 days on the Kenya Orthopaedic Project (KOP), joining a team of healthcare professionals from the UK tasked with educating and operating on as many local people in need as possible.
