Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

Rachael ‘braves the shave’ for Macmillan

A medical lab assistant at the Royal Devon and Exeter hospital has raised over £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support by having her shoulder length hair shaved off.

Rachael Phillips signed up to the charity’s ‘Brave the Shave’ campaign after family members were affected by cancer and raised the money through getting sponsored by friends, relatives and colleagues.

She said: “My granny had bowel cancer in her 80’s and overcame it. I’ve also known a couple of people recently who have been helped by Macmillan. It’s an amazing thing to have a support service like Macmillan.”

It's raining fashion at the Met Office!

The Met Office is playing host to a fundraising fashion show for Exeter-based charity WESC Foundation (WESC), to help raise much needed funds for the charity’s ‘Communication Aids Appeal’. Sponsored by ITEC Connect and compéred by popular broadcaster Judi Spiers, the event is being held on the 22nd October with John Lewis showcasing its autumn/winter 2015 collection featuring students at Exeter College as models, who will also be wearing their own designs.

Purrfect time for a race to aid cats

Saturday 3rd October 2015, Charity Race Night in aid of Exeter Axhayes cats protection adoption centre.

Another popular event being held at The Cat & Fiddle Inn, Sidmouth Road, Clyst St Mary. Doors open at 7pm with the first race starting at 7.30pm prompt.

Cash prizes for those betting on the winning horse in each race.

Double amputee climbs for Hospiscare

Hospiscare’s amazing fundraiser, Norman Croucher has done it again!

Over the summer, after chemotherapy,radiotherapy and a major operation resulting in a permanent colostomy because of bowel cancer, the 75-year-old double leg amputee has returned to the French Alps and climbed four mountains.

Norman is raising money for us and says this gives him a great sense of purpose; the total so far is nearly £8,000.

Charity's Magical Mystery Tour a big success

Almost 50 Dream-A-Way guests took part in a magical mystery tour on Wednesday 16 September alongside volunteer, Mike Rock, and his team from Friends of Dream-A-Way Sidmouth.

Guests were overwhelmed with generosity when treated to teas, coffees and cakes during their first stop at Marine Public House and Beckett’s Coffee Shop which sit on the Sidmouth sea front. Dream-A-Way were also thrilled by the generous donation given by The Marine.

Following some retail therapy and sight-seeing, the group travelled along the East Devon coast to award-winning spot, Ladram Bay.

Car treasure hunt for Parkinson's UK

On Sunday 4th October a Car Treasure Hunt will take place in and around East Devon starting in the car park at Greendale Farm Shop (EX5 2JU), from 1.30 – 2.30pm. The Treasure Hunt (including a couple of walking sections) takes about 3 hours to complete and there will be all sorts of things to look out for along the route. Teams, of which there needs to be at least two adults will be issued on arrival with details of the route to follow, all in rhyme.

The secret destination is a pub in East Devon where a choice of meals, including Roast Dinner & Fish & Vegetarian options...

Exeter charity launches fundraising pack

Community Equality Disability Action (CEDA) based in Exeter has today launched a new fundraising pack which encourage potential new supporters to raise money for the disability charity.

Craig Bowden from CEDA, comments: “For a long time now we have been considered a great secret and its now we begin to let the secret out. CEDA work with over 250 disabled people a year and the family and friends are aware of the work CEDA do, now it’s time to get the other 750,000 people in Devon knowing the same”.

Exeter hospice named Searle House

Our Exeter hospice has been named Searle House in recognition of the dedicated local family which helped establish our vital service.

Liz and John Searle were the driving force behind the group which 33 years ago established us as a local charity. Starting with just two community nurses Hospiscare quickly expanded and we opened the hospice on the RD&E Wonford site in 1992.

Today Hospiscare has 160 staff, 1,000 volunteers, three day centres and a 12 bed hospice; these services cost us £6m a year to run, with £1.25m funded by the NHS and the rest by fundraising events,...

Celebrate and raise funds for SNUG

There are still tickets available for the fundraising ball of the year.

Supporting Neonatal Users and Graduates (SNUG) is hosting its first fundraising ball on Saturday 7th November at the Rougemont Hotel, Exeter.

The evening promises to be a fun and uplifting evening raising funds for the work SNUG does supporting parents and families of babies who have been born premature.

The ball which begins at 7.30 is vintage themed with table games, a vintage photo booth, silent auction and raffle all being offered on the evening. Along with a three course meal the evenings...
