Exeter Leukaemia Fund wins MAB Foundation's £20,000 anniversary grant

The Mortgage Advice Bureau Foundation has awarded its one-off £20,000 Extra Funding Grant to Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF), a charity supporting people affected by blood cancer and their families.

The award marks three years of grant-giving by the Foundation, which has supported around 60 UK charities and raised over £550,000 since launching in 2022. Every previous grant recipient was invited to apply for the anniversary grant, with five charities shortlisted and asked to submit a video for colleagues and business partners to vote on.

This week, 12-18 June, it’s Carers Week. The annual campaign aims to raise awareness of the challenges carers face and recognises the contribution carers make to families and communities throughout the UK.

Local charity Hospiscare support patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families in Exeter, Mid and East Devon. The charity also provides a range of services for carers with information, advice, complementary therapies, or simply the opportunity to talk to someone who understands.

Devon Air Ambulance’s annual Motorcycle Ride Out returns

Devon Air Ambulance (DAA) are excited to announce that this year’s Motorcycle Ride Out, sponsored by Bridge Motorcycles, will return to the Den, Teignmouth on Sunday 9th July 2017.

It is anticipated in the region of 1000 bikes will enter this year’s Ride Out which will start from Trago Mills, Newton Abbot, from where the bikes will set off in small groups from 10:30am.

Registration will open at 9am. The bikes will then follow an approximate 80 miles marshalled route through the stunning Devon countryside before arriving at the Den, Teignmouth, from lunch time.

Homeless charity needs your vote

A CHARITY, which works to prevent young people becoming homeless, is urging the public to help it secure a funding grant. Community Housing Aid is in the running for a grant for its project, Nightstop Devon, which provides emergency accommodation for young people. Members of the public are being urged to go online and vote for Nightstop Devon, which is taking part in a campaign to receive a grant of up to £25,000 from the Masonic Charitable Foundation Community Award. SENSE receives £750 from local Freemasons

Every Spring and Autumn Freemasons from around Devon meet to give support totalling in excess of £45,000 to local charities and organisations throughout the county who are in need of assistance, one of the groups who were nominated by St. Michaels lodge in Dawlish was the “SENSE” Devon Group who were founded as a branch of the national charity in Newton Abbot 33 years ago and now have residential centres in Exeter, Wimple and Sidmouth.

Step dad takes cycling challenge for CHSW

In support of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) Nick Reed from Exeter has set himself the arduous challenge of cycling from his home in Exeter all the way to CHSW’s Little Bridge House hospice in Fremington, Barnstaple and back again!

Nick will commence his lengthy journey from his home in Exeter on Saturday 26 August and is calling on supporters to either join him or cheer him along the way. Nick will start his challenge at 8.00am, making his way to Little Bridge House before returning to his home that evening.

Staff and customers of WH Smith Exeter store are set to trek across Dartmoor, completing 30miles over 2 days on 10th/11th June 2017 in aid of mental health charity Mind.

Richard Boyter, 33, who works for WHSmith in Exeter, is walking with staff and customers to raise £1000 by trekking across Dartmoor.

Property Search Group launches charity campaign for Vision Aid Overseas

A national charity is appealing for volunteers to come forward and help the blind people it supports in the Exeter and Plymouth areas.

British Wireless for the Blind Fund (BWBF) provides specially adapted audio equipment to visually impaired people across the UK.

The charity is looking for radio support volunteers, whose role would be to visit people with sight loss in their homes throughout Exeter and Plymouth, install their new radio and teach them how to use it as well as provide on-going support where needed.
