A South West charity is set to get a boost of £10,000 thanks to a regional property developer.

Devon-based Devonshire Homes has adopted Hospiscare as its charity of the year, and has pledged to raise the cash through a range of initiatives.

Hospiscare provides care and support for patients and their families living with a terminal illness and has centres in Exeter, Mid Devon and East Devon. All of its services are free and the charity needs to raise over £5m each year to continue to care for the 2000 patients who use its services.

Richard Cousins, Corporate Relationship Manager at Hospiscare, said: “We’ve been providing palliative care locally for over 30 years and it is this type of support from Devonshire Homes that is vital in enabling us to continue to care for patients and their families. One key objective for us in 2015 is to improve the facilities at Pine Lodge, our day centre in Tiverton, so that we can provide even better care for dementia patients, and we are delighted that a local business is helping us do that.”

Jane Pearce, Sales and Marketing Director at Devonshire Homes, said: “Supporting charity is incredibly important for us, and Hospiscare does such amazing work that we are delighted to be working with them. We will not only be donating money that is directly related to our business activities, but we will also be engaging our staff in a wide range of events and initiatives to raise funds and also the profile of Hospiscare locally.“

To mark the new relationship Devonshire Homes has been working with Hospiscare in planning various activities, and has agreed to donate £50.00 for each legal completion of its new build properties through the year.

Devonshire Homes will also sponsor a fund-raising variety show in Tiverton on 27th March that is being organised by the charity, featuring former chart-toppers Bucks Fizz. A themed ‘colour’ day will also be held in the company’s offices when all staff will wear blue and make a donation to the charity, and various additional activities will be announced later in the year.
