Charity auction to fix a leaky school roof in Mumbai
A Charity Auction will be held on 17th April at The Canopy in South Street, Exeter to raise money to fix the roof of a school for children living in the slums of Mumbai.
In October of last year Daniel Hiller, director of Vision ICT, worked with SlumAid and volunteered at a school in Sion, South Mumbai which was set up by the local charity Lok Seva Sangam (LSS). While there he experienced life and education as it is for children in the slums. Daniel had this to say about his time there:
“It was very humbling to see the wonderful work taking place in Mumbai thanks to organisations like SlumAid and I was glad to be a part of it. Having come home and realised how lucky we are, it would be great if, for my birthday, we could make a long-lasting difference to the lives of the children over there by raising the money to fix their school roof.”
Vision ICT and the Canopy will be spearheading the event to fix the holes in the school roof and provide those children in Mumbai a safe learning environment. These local companies have long been striving to give back to the community and now they appear to be branching out to global aid.
The Event will start at 7.30pm with an introduction followed by a short storytelling piece by Wyverns Tales that provides a veritable smorgasbord of local tales and strange stories, from local myths to old legends and amusing history, they weave a whimsical journey of the spoken word.
Attendees will receive fizz on arrival and a three-course meal provided by the Canopy with the auction kicking off at around 9pm. The Money raise at the event to go towards the £1,600 total needed to replace the roof.
Tickets and additional information is available at Vision ICT website.
Daniel is looking for local businesses or individuals who wish to donate items to be auctioned off at the event. Any donations would be gratefully received and can be dropped off at the Vision ICT Office, 1 Southernhay West, Exeter, EX1 1JG or they can collect.
