Retailer John Lewis is urging final year students and graduates not to miss the deadline for its 2014 graduate scheme. The scheme closes to applications on 1st December 2013.

The graduate scheme offers jobs in one of five specialities; Retail Management, Buying, Merchandising, Corporate Finance and a brand new Technology Scheme.

South West arts organisation Albow have been awarded a £125k to develop This Is On, an app that seeks to revolutionise how we find live listings. Working with partners including University of Exeter and University of the West of England (UWE) Albow will develop the new mobile and desktop app over the next year. Local chartered accountants, Francis Clark has announced that TV personality and former Secretary of State Michael Portillo will be the keynote speaker at the firm’s second Finance in the South West seminar to be held in February 2014.

UK inflation falls to 2.2%

The UK's inflation rate fell to 2.2% in the year to October 2013 as measured by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI).

The figure is the lowest for more than a year and is down from 2.7% in September, according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The ONS reports that the largest contributions to the fall in the rate came from a drop in prices in the transport sector (notably motor fuels) and in education where the impact of rising tuition fees was felt less acutely than a year previously.
