Michelmores, the South West-based law firm established in 1887, has reported its sixth consecutive year of growth as strategic decisions and investments made in 2016/17 left the business well-placed for the future. In the year to 30 April 2017, turnover at Michelmores climbed from £32.9m to £33.4m, with the growth achieved despite the firm disposing of its medical negligence practice as well as wider Brexit effects. Third of Devon businesses see positive Brexit impact

A third of Devon businesses are confident that Brexit will be beneficial and a opportunity to grow their company, according to a new survey.

In the recent study carried out by local business support programme Fast Track 2 Growth, 35% of Devon businesses said they believed Brexit presented opportunities for growth, compared with 23% who said leaving the EU was likely to have a negative impact on their business.

In another positive finding, 63% of companies expect to recruit more people in 2018 than 2017.

Devon’s Beach Schools South West company – which puts the coast onto the educational curriculum – has been honoured at 10 Downing Street after being recognised by an organisation promoting small businesses.

The not-for-profit community company is among 100 across the UK chosen by the organisation Small Business Saturday, which supports and promotes smaller companies.
