Business from across the South West came together at City Padel Exeter to raise £900 for FORCE Cancer Chairty as part of a charity padel tournament hosted by Konker .

The event saw 12 local businesses compete in a friendly tournament, combining sport, networking and fundraising in support of Devon based cancer charity. The day aimed to create a relaxed and social alternative to traditional business events, while raising money for a cause with strong local impact.

Exeter Chamber of Commerce & Industry has announced that Mark Pellow, a current Vice Chair, has been appointed as the new Chair of the Chamber. Mark is the Managing Director of Vickery Holman and specialises in strategic advice on commercial property matters and is an experienced negotiator and valuer.

Mark will succeed David Savill, who is retiring from the chamber council after 9 years of valuable service.

Devon businesses make switch to LEDs to tackle energy use

In the last 12 months more than 5,000 LED lights have been fitted in Devon businesses and organisations.

This major energy switch stands to save businesses involved over £100,000 and 439 tonnes of CO2, equivalent to the energy use of an average house for 33 years, according to SunGift Energy Ltd.

Working with Devon businesses, including Westpoint Arena and Pecorama, law firms Ashfords LLP and Stephens Scown as well as six primary schools and three medical practices, SunGift Energy LED projects have saved money, energy and have improved lighting.

Shaun Pike has been appointed as site manager at Minerva - Barratt Homes’ new development in Exeter where work is underway to create a community of 159 new homes.

Shaun will be responsible for overseeing construction at the site, liaising with construction workers, subcontractors and suppliers. An all abilities football team looking to keep its place in the league has scored new kit with a £1,000 donation.

Persimmon Homes South West has made the donation to Barnstaple Abilities Football Club through its hugely successful Community Champions campaign and it means they will be allowed to keep their place in Devon Ability Court Football League.

Devon County Council is announcing the next phase of expansion to a network of business work spaces, which is helping to boost the county’s productivity.

Around 20 per cent of Devon workers are working from home, some of them small businesses that started from spare rooms and kitchen tables, and many are looking to move into larger office accommodation.

Exeter’s 15th annual Really Big Quiz, organised by chartered accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards and held at the Corn Exchange, has raised an all-time record amount for the Lord Mayor of Exeter’s charity of the year. Duncan Lyster, a fourth year physics student at the University of Exeter, UK, has founded his own hand-crafted, wooden surfboard company.
