Simpkins Edwards strikes Gold at national Accounting Excellence Awards
Accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards flew the flag for Devon at the prestigious Accounting Excellence Awards, picking up the Gold award for Employer of the Year (Mid-Tier Firm).
The firm, which has five offices across the county and employs over 130 people from the local area, shows a genuine commitment to ensuring that all employees are safe, supported and valued.
Judges praised Simpkins Edwards for the quality of the awards submission, and for backing up its claims with robust data, pointing to exceptionally low staff absence rates with just 0.38% of total hours lost due to sickness. Impressively, 14% of staff have been with the firm for over 25 years.
Simpkins Edwards’ long-standing commitment to nurturing talent was also commended. Training and development are treated as a career-long strategy, ensuring staff are fully supported in achieving their personal and professional goals. In addition, as an apprentice employer for over 20 years, Simpkins Edwards provides opportunities for the accountants of the future. The firm currently has 23 apprentices – and one Director started their career as an apprentice with Simpkins Edwards 13 years ago.
Judges also highlighted the firm’s “vibrant culture”, which sees it providing multiple opportunities for community volunteering and fundraising, from painting Scout huts to 5-a-side football, 5K runs, and the firm’s annual Really Big Quiz.
