Leading South West independent accountancy, business and tax advisory firm Simpkins Edwards has strengthened its corporate services team with the appointment of specialist Corporate Tax Partner, Michael Hesketh.

Michael joins the partnership working from the firm’s Exeter and Barnstaple offices. A Chartered Tax Advisor with more than 20 years’ UK tax compliance and advisory experience, he specialises in tax planning for entrepreneurial and owner‑managed businesses. His expertise spans succession and exit planning, transaction tax structuring and M&A support, cross‑border transactions, reorganisations and general corporation tax compliance.

He brings extensive experience providing commercially focused tax advice to a wide range of businesses and their owners, from start‑ups and SMEs to multi‑national and listed entities.

Before joining Simpkins Edwards, Michael led the tax advisory services for a national firm in the West Country. He said: “I’m delighted to join Simpkins Edwards as part‑owner of a successful, independent firm with deep roots in the local community and long‑standing client relationships.

“I’m looking forward to supporting the next stage of the firm’s growth by helping clients navigate complex tax matters and make confident, informed decisions about their businesses.”

Michael will be working closely with specialists across the firm’s six offices to ensure clients receive a comprehensive, bespoke and commercially driven tax advisory service, helping them maximise reliefs, plan effectively and achieve their strategic objectives.

Managing Partner, Mark Simic said: “We continue to see strong demand from entrepreneurs and owner‑managed businesses across the region. Michael’s appointment further enhances the depth of our corporate tax offering for both existing and prospective clients.

“His experience in the West Country means he already understands the value of the trusted relationships we build with our clients. I’m confident he will make a significant contribution in the years ahead.”

Established in 1968, Simpkins Edwards has grown to five offices across Devon with a workforce of around 130. Alongside traditional accounting services, the firm provides tax consultancy, detailed management accounts and quarterly strategy meetings to support businesses and individuals in making informed decisions and focusing on their core priorities.
