Poynton Bradbury expands into Exeter
Award-winning architectural practice Poynton Bradbury Architects has marked its 50th anniversary with an exciting expansion—opening a new studio in Exeter to serve Devon and Somerset communities more closely.
Founded in St Ives, Cornwall, the firm is celebrated for its commitment to sustainable, community-led, and heritage-sensitive design. The new office, opened in 2024, is led by Associate Architect Kate Wotton, who brings more than a decade of experience, particularly in public-sector and educational architecture.
“Opening our Exeter studio strengthens our ability to collaborate with communities, consultants, and local authorities across the region,” said Wotton. “We’re excited to contribute meaningfully to the area’s regeneration and sustainable future.”
A certified B Corporation employing Passivhaus designers, Poynton Bradbury has long prioritised environmentally responsible architecture. The firm aims to be a national leader in regenerative, low-carbon design, contributing to the circular economy through innovation and contextual sensitivity.
Wotton, an advocate for skills development in the built environment, has participated in Building Greater Exeter and Build Torbay—regional programmes aimed at nurturing construction skills and career opportunities.
The firm’s presence in Devon has already led to significant appointments with key public-sector clients. These include the redevelopment of Honeygar Farm into a national research centre for Somerset Wildlife Trust, conservation work at the Grade II listed Oldway Mansion* in Paignton, and a detailed study of the Grade II listed Torquay Pavilion in collaboration with Torbay Council, addressing complex restoration and community engagement challenges.
Poynton Bradbury’s Exeter expansion marks a new chapter in its five-decade journey, bringing heritage, sustainability, and contemporary design together in a region rich with opportunity and history.
