In the current climate, it has become almost impossible for companies to meet, interview and recruit new candidates. However, as summer approaches, another year of students are set to graduate and many of them will still be actively searching for job opportunities amid the chaos of COVID-19.

To overcome these unprecedented times, STEM Women have launched unique Weekly Online Careers Events. Beginning on 1st April and continuing each Wednesday afternoon in April, these virtual events will give employers the platform to reach out to pre-screened, virtual sign ups based on their individual profiles. They can then schedule networking sessions, online interviews, presentations, remote assessments and much more. Companies already confirmed for our first event include EY, Bloomberg and Alacrity Foundation.

In Just like STEM Women face-to-face events, the virtual fairs are aimed at individuals who identify as female but are open to all, regardless of gender. They will be suitable for students and graduates who are looking to start a career within a STEM industry. Women make up just 22% of the STEM workforce in the UK, according to the Office for National Statistics Labour Force Survey. Many companies are looking to address this gender imbalance; however, it can be difficult for recruiters to find the right candidates for STEM roles, especially in our current climate. The STEM Women Weekly Online Events will strive to bridge the gap between talented graduates and employers, starting conversations and boosting equality in the future workforce.

Sophie Chadwick, Events Manager at STEM Women describes this new virtual event format: “It’s important for us to continue providing ways for women studying STEM subjects and working in STEM industries to access support, career opportunities and be part of a wider inspiring community. Employers are still keen to meet top talent, and women are still keen to understand what a career in STEM can offer them.

“This will be our first event taking place online, which is exciting. We are able to run these events once per week on a Wednesday afternoon, meaning more networking can take place than ever before! These events can serve women working in a wide variety of locations too, as they don’t have to travel to our venues. We are creating these events in collaboration with employers, students and women working in STEM, in order to create a unique service that works for everyone.

“I’m confident that our communities will adapt to online careers events and continue to support each other. I’m excited to see what we can achieve when we collaborate online.”
