Excellence in South Devon building work recognised at national awards ceremony

A Devon Building Control project has scooped a prestigious national award, winning ‘Best individual new home’ at the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2018.

A record-breaking 860 attendees from the construction world and local authority building control attended the awards night at Westminster’s Park Plaza on Friday 9 November, hosted by comedian and impressionist Jon Culshaw.

Winning entries were nominated by professional surveyors from Devon Building Control Partnership which provides the building control service on behalf of Teignbridge, South Hams and West Devon district and borough councils. The team serves an area covering 1,050 sq miles with 84 miles of coastline and moorland. The LABC awards are about the essence of good buildings, with finalists judged on the “excellence” shown from a construction and technical building control point of view. They celebrate the design and construction teams that, found innovative and creative solutions to technical issues and difficult sites.

Winners and highly commended were chosen by a panel of construction industry experts from a list of high quality projects from around England and Wales to reward the best in technical innovation, sustainability and design. Award categories covered the whole range of construction, rewarding everything from the best extension, local builder or traditional craftsperson and conversion through to the best new housing development, public service building, inclusive building and partnership with a local authority building control team.

Devon Building Control Partnership is based at Teignbridge District Council head offices in Forde House, Newton Abbot. The helpful team of qualified surveyors and administration officers provide impartial advice and assistance to the public, agents, architects, builders, developers, and other professionals on matters relating to building regulations and other services. Work also includes dangerous structures inspection and resolution, access advice and control of demolition works.
